Who has hybrid electric power ?

Hybrid is typically a combination of solar and grid supplied power. Anymore, few POCOs will "buy back" at the same price they sell power to you. Plus the cost of the second meter and batteries makes the "break even" time much longer.

Hybrid PV inverter typically means that it's connected to the grid and can utilize battery storage.

Solar and grid (no battery): I just call it "grid tie". I have this.
No second meter. Back-feed the existing meter. Yes, POCOs may handle this differently and it shifts the economics. 1:1 "net meter" is a good deal. Payback at wholesale or less is per kWh is a bad deal.

Various ways to play the game if you have battery storage. You can set your inverters to discharge power during high cost-to-use periods, making sure you maximize your return by using less grid power. But yea, PV + inverter + battery ain't cheap.

Dominion power does met metering. if we generate 1000 kWh and consume 700 kwh, we get a credit of 300 kWh. in the following month if we consume 1300 kwh and generate 1000 kWh, then we have a net zero and our bill for both months is about $8 admin fees.
I have discovered that dominion under reports our generation compared to what my inverter software reports. My best guess is that dominion never sees the power we consume as it’s being generated. It never goes to the grid or meter, so they are unaware of it. I don’t know if that’s correct.

It really depends on how much and when you use power along with your utility rates.
As mentioned, if the buyback of overproduction is bought at wholesale rates the payback time is longer.

We did until we moved to town a couple of years ago. Now we just have grid tied PVs with net metering. On the farm, we had PVs, a big (36kW-hr lead acid), and a wind turbine (2500 watt 1940s vintage Jacobs). Sold the wind turbine when we moved but the PVs stayed with the farm property. We ran our house on renewable energy at two places from 1977 to 2022.
