I have the standard 24 by 24 front loader two car garage. I have it looking good but as the need for new toys hits me it sure would be nice to have another larger 2 or 3 car garage. It would be great to see how some of you have solved this problem as I would like to make the second garage blend in so I can get the homeowners association to bless it......

I have a three car attached, with room for another 11 in back.

But I'm on an acre with no homeowners association. I would imagine if the new structure carried the same characteristics as the existing house and was possibly set back just a bit they would go for it. I have heard of some people making sure the garage doors do not face public view and then dressing the garage addition with faux windows to give it a more "home addition" feel.

I have a 26x40 with attic here at the house and about 300 miles North of that I have a 24x30 on a small peice of the old family homestead that I had deeded over to me years ago. I store my camo hunting rig in there a 1979 3/4 ton Chevy van with a 4x4 conversion.

I built them both myself.

I've got a 3 car on the house for the wife to park in, lawnmowers, storage of large amounts of ****, etc. Then I've got a 30x30 shop out back for all my stuff. It's just a yellow metal building with red accents.

No HOA here though, and I've got a couple of acres to play with.

i've got an attached two car... then i've got a detached two car in the back yard. no HOA here either though. my detached garage has siding that matches the siding on the house(brick with siding on gables). so, it matches somewhat.

I have an attached 2-car (wife's car, storage, etc)
A detached 2-bay with an additional lift bay.
Adding a machine bay behind that.
Full upstairs for storage.
And a shed for the lawn tractor/implements of destruction.
No HOA, but my best advice is to make it match the house, and if you put a breezeway on it, in most areas it becomes part of the house and subject to rules for housing additions.

It's ALMOST enough.

I have two garages. The attached garage is your standard deal, has the car and truck, lawnmower, bikes, etc. I built a 2nd garage a few years ago, it's strictly the shop. It's nice to be able to keep the 'garage' stuff separate from the 'shop' stuff.

We have a 22'x30' on the house and a few years back I built a 28'x36' for myself that somehow the wife has found part of.

Ive got the 24x22 attached to the house and the 30x56 detached... My pickup still sits outside most of the time so i have an open bay to work in. Damn mowers and **** take up to much space. I wish i had a room for a barn, guess a little shed will be my next move.

The garages are what sold this house. Her garage is upstairs. It holds all her yard and garden equipment. My garage is down under the house.

Do you have the ability to build backwards off of your current garage? I eyeballed a house that had a standard 2 stall off the end but then was 2 deep that also went 3 wide (back behind part of the house). Might be easier to get past an association then adding another building.

I have a 2 car (20 x 24) next to the house, and a 30 x 40 Pole Barn on the property as well. Will probably be replacing the Pole Barn with a new larger structure in the next few years.

I'm the poster child for "can't have enough garages / need more garage space" I've got a 24x24 attached to the house, a 12x24 "garden shed in the yard (toys in summer, vette storage in winter), and a 24x62 building on the lot next to me (it is divided up into a 24x30 shop in front, a 24x8 storage area in the middle, and 24x24 garage in the back; and I'd like to add about 40 feet onto the front someday if my wife and city will allow it:thumbup:

just use similar materials and colors. if the house is tan, make the garage tan, use the same type of shingles/colors. get the associations input on it early on so you know what they have issues with, they usually have a good comment or two and that makes them happy to have some input. You have to give a little to get a lot sometimes. my favorite comment from them was "why does it have to be so big?" I almost laughed right there. They also wanted a lot of windows, which as we all know from some of the other threads on here, take up valuable shelf space, but I told them I would put some in per there suggestion, even though I was planning on putting them in anyway.

have some good elevation prints available, not chicken scratch on a napkin of what your ideas are.

Good luck
