who has sk

i know that most people including myself will say that sk is a very high quality tool, and i bet most of you have a wrench set or a few random sk tools but does anyone here have a ton of sk stuff? and use sk exclusively like someone would use snapon?

A good amount of my tool set is SK stuff. I have SAE/Metric combo wrenches, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2" socket sets in SAE/Metric standard and deep well, pliers, and torx driver. I like them because they have always been dependable for me and the local dealer had good prices.

The 3/8" drive sockets that I use the most are SK, std & metric. Plus a lot of other stuff, ratchets, pliers etc.

I used S-K ratchets and sockets almost exclusively 'till I discovered Bonney. I've since been on a hunt to secure as much Bonney as possible - now it's my go-to tool brand. The S-K sets are in the work van and the wife's car.

I have SK 1/4” and 3/8” torque wrenches, the large 1/4” socket set, the large 1/2” drive socket set, Superkrome SAE wrench set and short double box metric set, I have some extensions, 3/8 Impact set, and some loose wrenches. I like the wrenches the sockets and ratchets are on par with Craftsman (nothing exciting), and I think the torque wrenches are under rated compared to Craftsman. I have sold off parts of the large 1/2” drive set and don’t care for their ratchets, universals, or extensions.

I have 6-8 , 3/8", 3-4, 1/4" and 2-3, 1/2" SK ratchets. Numerous socket set in all drive sizes, both SAE, and MM. I have a set of raised panels metric wrenches. My go to metric set is a 3/8" metric, short, and deep, SK.

The old knurl base sk sockets are one of my favorite. Good grip with greasy hands. wouldn't consider it a ton of sockets but here's mine in 1/4 and 1/2. not pictured is an incomplete set of newer s-k wayne 3/8 metric set and ratchets

I have a lot of sk tools, one of my favorite ratchets is my 1/4 flexhead. I have several of the greenhandle suregrip screwdrivers, I like them every bit as good as my snapon hard handles. My uncle has lots of sk as well.

I have full sets of SK long pattern and stubby superchrome combo wrenches, metric and standard, as well as full hansen trays of metric & standard 1/2 drive sockets, most of the 3/8 trays full, and some mixed in my 1/4 trays. I also have like a 12 piece green and black handle screwdriver set and a few other things. I like their stuff. I replaced a mishmash of craftsman & walmart "lived in an apartment and needed something" junky tools with these when I started working on my jeep.

My 1/2" 12 point SAE sockets at work are mostly older SK, I bought them used and they've held up to anything I've needed them for. Definitely good stuff

One of my first "set" purchases was SK 1/4 drive metric sockets in a mechanics time saver magnetic holder with reg and extended sockets. Its my go to set, partially due to ease of access.

My first set to collect was also SK Wayne, very nice, very old almost complete 1/2 drive SAE set.

I also have picked up a few SK pliers, they make a duckbill style I like a lot.

as popular as teardrop/pear shaped ratchets are i'll always favor the SK round heads. Thats about all i'd buy of theirs though. The independant SK that just went bankrupt wasnt making tools that i'd consider far better than craftsman, at least so far as sockets, wrenches and screw drivers are concerned. If i were going to shop for SK brand tools it would have to be from the mid 90s and earlier. If their newer stuff was priced cheaper i could see it being good but i just couldnt bring myself to spend ~$150 for a basic 3/8" starter socket set.

I have some SK chrome sockets, mostly 1/2 dr sprinkled in my Hanson Racks. I also keep a set of the SK 3/8 dr sockets 3/8 thru 9/16 deepwells in both the toolbox and cart as they are good intermediate sized deepwells. Not as long as the Craftsman and Cornwell deeps but a bit taller than the short ones. Also have a couple of 3/8 dr SK Roto-head ratchets and their 1/4 dr ratchet is one of the best.

I have quite a number of S-K tools, many sockets in all sizes, a few ratchets and many wrenches. But I do have a question. What is the reason that many of my wrenches are named differently on the raised panel? i.e. S-K; S-K Tools; S-K Wayne; S-K Lectrolite. My thought was different corporation ownership.

SK Lectrolite seems to of been more of a partnership that took place around 1950. Lectrolite made wrenches, SK made sockets, ratchets, breaker bars etc...

In the early 60s they were purchased by the Symington-Wayne co. and branded SK-Wayne. Around 1970 Dresser Ind. purchased Symington-Wayne which included SK and the tools were again branded simply SK. 1985 Facom came along and purchased the SK divison and that lasted till 2005 when SK was repurchased by the management, which may or may not have had something to do with the fact that Stanley was in talks to purchase Facom, and that independent ownership is what lasted up until the bankruptcy.
