Asking this question myself on Google brought me here.
I have 1 of those wood work benches from HF that I've mounted a grinder and a vise to, and I've yet to pick up a drill press. Had always used a friend's before moving. I've settled on getting a bench top mainly due to space concerns and found an idea I like. Eastwood I think is the company that offers it but you can get the same stuff probably cheaper at home depot but it's the basic angle irons needed for corner jointing, using 4x4 posts, you set the height, a stability set of boards at the bottom (you can build a shelf on them if you choose) repeating for the top but covering it in a thicker plywood with an overlay of tin or aluminum for added stiffness AND to protect the wood as well as allowing for an easier cleaning work bench. Use treated wood or stain or paint by choice or leave raw. I would end up replacing the current work bench I mentioned with this, making it longer and a bit wider to better fit in the area but allow me the space needed for the attaching devices while still giving me a good sized work space beyond the machines.
I'm also looking at getting a 20 ton table top shop press, also due to space concerns but with many newer cars and even older ones especially euros and asians the wheel bearings are all press fit. No way around it. So building a work bench like this that allows the use of multiple units I think would be best. Setting them up to allow long work on the drill press as well with that set forward more then others as they are mounted although the shop press ill probably not leave mounted. Would be the leased used piece I think. I have a cluttered garage, need a shed or secondary garage and I see some of you have the same issues. Doing this would upend your space but I think it would, in the long run, be a space saver. Uts what I'm planning to do anyway. My drill press will be used for quite a bit of stuff between auto and gun part atuff.
