Who made Milwaukee bench grinders (60064F) 8" ?

Scored this bad boy at auction, for the cost of two new stones basically.

Its in great shape, fires right up, smooth, quiet, and those dust shields!

I looked up the visible #s, seems to be a Milwaukee branded 8" .75HP machine, not sure the vintage.

Any guesses who may have made these for Milwaukee... Baldor, Wissota?

You're probably right that it's one of those two manufacturers. I'd lean toward Wissota, but wouldn't put money on it. A definite You **** deal regardless, since they're both top-line companies. Where was the auction, if I could ask?

It's not a Milwaukee (it's not RED). It's a Dayton. Look closely at the wheel guards: made by Doerr Electric.

Auction was a local one up here in NorCal. Got the grinder and a Taiwan cross slide vise in good shape for $120ish OTD. I think the grinder made up for the just OK vise...

exmaxima- when I googled the part #, Milwaukee showed up in the results for replacement parts? I could definitely be wrong, as there is no other markings.

After more research seems Doerr may be the mfg, seems 5040 is also a part # for this model. Likely rebranded Dayton, as the logo isnt round like the Milwaukee version.... nor is it all RED.

The label has the Dayton model 1Z707. It's an early USA version.

How does Doerr stack up against the other USA made grinders?

Like I said, overall I am very happy with the condition and performance for the price. Just curious I suppose.

In my experience those Doerr models with the peaked shaft housings are the closest thing to Baldor overall. Doerr was the son of old man Baldor I think was how it went?

All of the old 6" or bigger USA grinders I've seen and used were awesome. Baldor is the only one still making grinders in the US so if you want top quality they are the only game in town for new. I wouldn't walk across the street for any Asian Grinder that I've seen or used.

I agree with you on the older Doerr. My mistake calling this a Baldor; I have a Doerr made Dayton 7" with the same wheel guards.

My 7" Dayton is 1980-82 vintage, and has a smaller diameter motor, but that may be because of the HP.

I've read that Doerr was the "dor" in Baldor. After they sold the company he founded a new one. For the record my Milwaukee branded grinder that appears to be a Doerr manufactured unit is also gray and doesn't appear to have ever been red. The only info on it that I've found is an IPL dated 1968.

I read that, too. Wikipedia: Baldor Electric was founded in 1920 by Edwin Ballman and Emil Doerr.
