Who made Snap On bench grinders?

Any idea who made Snap-On's (Blue Point) bench grinders? I am guessing maybe Baldor...

I just picked up the one in the attached pic for $10, including the pedestal. As you can see, it's missing some of the guarding and the tool rests, and I was going to check into getting parts (their site shows none) before I fabbed something up for myself. FWIW, it's a 6" grinder, 1/3 HP, model BG333G.

No kidding. Never heard of a Wissota grinder, but there is definitely a resemblance. Bet I'll have more in replacement parts than I paid for the grinder? :bounce:

Thanks!

I see Wissota grinders all the time in industrial plants, I had no idea they had been a supplier for SO till you posted your pic. I do not have one, but if I ever get the chance, I will be dragging in one of those old Baldor's.

Looks like an old Wissota brand to me, color shape, size etc. is spot on.

Look here http://www.wissota.com/

hholmberg, you have got some very excellent expereince!

When Elroy first saw that picture, he also thought it was a Wissota.

A good friend of Elroy's has a Wissota and that thing runs sooo smooth it puts a Baldor to shame. They are really NICE bench grinders. POS they are not !!

Thank you for that insight Elroy, I have never seen one run so I was not aware of just how smooth they are! Based on your plug they just raised a notch on my respect scale, now I will likely be on the lookout for those used as well!

I fired it up when I got it home last night...I am definitely impressed. Comes up to speed NOW, and takes forever to stop. Has a minor vibration when starting and stopping, but the grinding wheel is visibly out of round. Some new wheels and tool rests and I should be good to go!

I must say I have never heard of a Wissota. Until now, that is.

The name is now filed in my cranium, for retrieval at flea markets and yard sales.

I just got off the phone with a very helpful lady at Wissota. They are able to provide parts and are quite reasonably priced. All of the parts I needed for the guards and rests were about $40. I couldn't mess around with building them for that.

At one time Wissota made grinders for Bosch, Milwaukee, Wilton, and Snap-On.

Thanks for the help!

The only power tools I am aware of that wore the name Power King were the entry level power tools produced by, or for the Atlas Press Co. back when. Atlas Press is most known for their metal lathes, metal shapers, benchtop millers, drill presses, woodworking line, and arbor presses. I personally own an old Power King scroll saw from the day. If the grinder looks to be 50's vintage or earlier I would say you have your answer.
