Do any of you now who made the CM ratchets posted below and what they are typically referred to as? I've seen them refered to as "Craftsman RHFT" but I don't think that's accurate because they sure don't seem like they have a FT action to me? I've also seen them referred to as "Thumbwheel Ratchets" but that's not accurate either.

How would YOU rate them quality wise?

This has been discused many times over. Ive got a set and always called them tri-wing ratchets. COO is more than likely Tiawan as there is nothing to identify them as being USA made. Decent ratchets but definantly not a RHFT.

I have them too and happen to like them, mostly because I've used them more than anything else. Mine are, I believe USA, although I have seen seemingly identical ones that are marked Taiwan. I purchased mine (3/8 and 1/2) via Sears mail order when I was stationed in Germany about 1984. My dad has the one I believe is from Taiwan. I'll try to get a pic a bit later today.

I've heard Stanley made those, and I believe that to be correct. That style was made in the USA and Taiwan and I believe they still make them. A lot of people really like those particular ratchets, I don't. Interestingly enough, those pictures above are mine of ratchets I sold on flea bay, when I first saw the pics I was thinking they look familiar, I figured out why.

Made by Stanley. Not made in the USA.

A very similar, or possibly identical, mechanism is still used in some ratchets produced by Stanley. Specifically, the Blackhawk round head ratchets. The same mechanism has been used in other stuff, too, such as Husky ratchets made by Stanley.

Well without knowing what most people refer to them as, it was pretty much impossible to do a search on this topic. A search for "Craftsman ratchet" would have pulled up many more threads then I have time to read! ;)

Thanks for the info, I have the 1/2" version and use to have (may still have?) the 3/8" version. Overall I think they are decent but nothing special. No, not a fine tooth but they do seem pretty strong? I don't care for the "tri-wing" selector as I prefer a lever. There is no COO markings on my 1/2 model but if they are from Taiwan then CM has been importing from Asia lot longer then some people think because I pretty sure I've had this one for at least 20 years now?

They may have, but I don't think I've seen anyone post one here. Perhaps I just haven't seen them.

Also, was that during the years Stanley was fudging their made in the USA claims?

That's the period they were from (when Stanley was "fudging"), I had several Stanley ones marked USA and I've had some more recent Blackhawk ones stamped USA but they came with a sticker that said made in USA of foreign and domestic parts ( or something to that effect), I posted pics of them on one of the boards but wouldn't begin to know where to look.

Nobody has ever posted a photo of one of the Craftsman models with a USA stamp on it. Most have no mark, and some say "TAIWAN".

If anyone has any other examples, I'd sure like to see them so please post up!

And since we know that was the era of (repeated) lies by Stanley regarding COO, I'm very wary of believing any similar models under any brand name were ever actually produced in the USA, whether so marked or not...

I have versions of that exact ratchet marked "Stanley", "Blackhawk", "Husky", and a couple other names. Not sure of the COO, but I always assumed they were from Taiwan.
