It appears to be an old pipe heater, maybe? Definitely an interesting design how it preheats the propane before the ignition. Years back I bought out a small blacksmith shop and this was in the box of small tools. It has a plate riveted to it as leased by skelgas co. , property of skelly oil co. Does another manufacturer make it? And skelly oil just slap a tag on it, for their use? I'm just curious about the history of it and how skelly oil company used it.

It's a high output liquid propane burner, similar to what they use in hot air balloons. As to what they used it for, could be anything. Probably pre heating. Glass shops use those as well for large work. The coils surround the flame to make sure the propane is no longer liquid before it gets sent out the jet as a gas up through the center of the coil and then burnt.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction. I new the man that passed away as a child, watched him work in his shop a time or two. He would re purpose anything. The only heat he had in the shop was from a stone forge, so Im thinking, the way he had the regulator set up he could drag that around to keep him warm? It was a dirt floor so nothing was gunna catch fire. He would definatly do something like that. So its probably from some appliance or heater of sorts he just made work. What still kind of bugs me is that the skelgas plate appears to be replated? and the lease thing? Still its just something to wonder about from time too time for me.
