Hey guys,

Who makes a ¼" drive 11/32 double square (8 point socket) in chrome?

I found 3/8 drive 11/32 double square sockets but would like a ¼ drive for removing square 11/32 plugs on hydraulic cylinders. I have been using a 12 point socket but would prefer a double square 11/32. Additionally, I have a set of double square sockets from S.O. but it doesn't include an 11/32. Lastly, I see a few companies that make 3/8 drive 11/32 square female pipe plug sockets, however, if I went with a female 11/32 pipe plug socket I would still prefer ¼" drive. Thank You!

Dang, I don't know if I've ever seen an 8-point in 1/4" drive. :dunno:

Well, at least I've never looked - I've never needed one.

Snap-on PP411A is a 3/8 drive 4pt 11/32, others may have similar. I dont know of anyone making an 8pt 11/32 in 1/4 drive, let alone anything other then 4pt.

I am going to get the sk 3/8 drive 11/32 female plug socket. The sk looks tapered vs the snap on.

What I am specifically using this for is-aircraft have to get a 100-flight hour inspection which is frequently split up into phase inspections. Part of that process is filling up the hydraulic fluid. Larger aircraft have filling ports in the landing gear, smaller aircraft have reservoirs in the nose or behind the rudder pedals. Occasionally, I will have to put my head underneath the dash and above the rudder pedals to unscrew the 11/32 male pipe plug above the reservoir to add fluid. There is more clearance for a socket with an extension versus using an 11/32 wrench. I am choosing chrome because skydrol (not 5606) will probably remove the oil on the impact socket and make them rust. Plus, chrome cr-v is thinner than cr-mo. Anyway, that is what I am using the plug socket for and I will get the socket in 3/8 drive instead a ¼ drive because it looks like that size in ¼ drive does not exist. Thank you for the responses.

i have the sk and they are pretty nice. handy when you need them. not like there is anything that fancy about a pipe plug socket.

spline sockets will work on squares. i have not used them on pipe plugs but i have used them on square headed set screws. same thing only different.

Pair that socket with a wright 3/8drive in a 1/4" ratchet and your pretty close to your original goal.

Just my opinion, but if it's a square bolt, I'd want to use a square socket over anything else if that was possible. Universal and 12 point sockets can cause damage to items that need to be repetitively removed over time, especially when different people start guessing at what sizes to use. I'd imagine a square socket would be a much better choice on anything that's already suffered damage from the above.

i would agree in theory.....

but my experience is different........ when i said i used them on set screw i didn't say where. they are used to hold a shaft that mounts a wheel to an arm on my grain drill. the set screw is located about 5 inches from the ground and is exposed to dirt and mud on a regular basis and is kept in an unheated building. it does get washed when put away but not immaculately as it is a piece of tillage equipment. the set screw show no signs of damage from the socket when removed. some of them have been in place for over 15 years.

i highly doubt that the inside of an airplane is subject to that sort of abuse. did i mention the spline socket set was from harbor freight and where bought just for that application?
