Who makes a decent Torx driver set?

I have an older craftsman Torx driver set. T10, T15, T20, T25, T27, T30. I am not real happy with it. The handles are the acetyl type and too small to get good leverage on stubborn screws. Some of the tips are not so well made and you can tell when using on a worn screw.

I'm Looking to upgrade. I looked at the Wiha and it also includes a T8 which I likely would not use. At least I don't think. Who knows what the future brings. I am not against getting a set that has some smaller sizes. I like the 3 lobe (anti roll) handle and the clear markings.

Also looked at the Bondhus and Tekton. Both look like good sets for the price.

I use the T20 thru T27 the most. For small engine work you often need the reach the drivers provide that you can't get with most standard bit sets or 1/4, 3/8 drive sockets.

Suggestions form those with 1st hand use. Thanks in advance.

I have Tekton in the larger sizes and Wiha in the smaller sizes. The Tekton are hard to beat for the price. The Wiha have more precise tips and a subjectively higher quality feel. I like both handles.

This would be my recommendation. If it doesn't fit your budget get the Tekton set and fill in the sizes they don't offer with Wiha singles.

I have the Proto Durateks and they are excellent. They only offer this 9 piece set or singles. Click on the drop down menu where it says "screwdrivers (9)" for the individual part numbers. Zoro has great prices.

The handles give great torque and excellent control,as well as being impervious to common shop chemicals. Tips are strong and fit very well.

I normally use sockets or a bitdriver but yeah sometimes you just don't have clearance. This winter when I was futzing around with chainsaws I bought a Felo T27 driver and I like it. I like the black handle on my Felo bitdriver more since the T27 has their hard blue plastic handle but it's still a good shaped handle. Fills the hand well and doesn't roll. FarmFleet has a T8, T9, T10, T15, T20 & T25 set for about $25

I know you said you need T27 also but you can find them on Amazon singly. The one that matches the rest of the set is $15

But if you don't mind a mismatch this one has the style handle my bitdriver does that I really like and it's under $12.

They also have the blue handled set that goes up to T30 for $38.

I gotta say the Carlyle set Belvedere posted from Napa does look nice as well.

I have a set from SK that I like. It has longer shanks than most I've used before, but the handles are comfortable to me. Since you say you typically need a long reach working with small engines, the longer SK ones would probably work well for you.

I have a set of SK bits that are nice to use with whatever 1/4 bit driver. But my personal go to's are the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh 3/8's and 1/4" 9 piece ratchet set. It's Pittsburgh Item#67914 its $9.99. And of course they have a lifetime warranty.

I use these almost exclusively for my torx/star bit needs. Cant ask for a much better handle than a ratchet or even better a cordless impact driver if you have the 3/8 and 1/4 socket drive adapters ($5 at HF).

I have put my set through their paces and have yet to see one break or strip off. I have built a cedar swing set for my son with these, dismantled and reassembled a transmission, and have done plenty of other odd and end things with them and had no problems.

I also have a wera set, and the handles are pretty good for gripping. I dont use them often, but when I do its cuz its the only thing that will fit. I think the set was 7 or 8 pieces and only like $45 on ebay.

I have a set from Wera and one from Knipex. Not sure who makes the Knipex one, but they're both great sets. The Wera set is a little more ergonomic but you have to be careful what you get on the handles as brake cleaner will eat away at them. Haven't had any issues with the Knipex.

Thanks to everyone for all the great ideas.

I was browsing on KC Tool and came across this set. I like sets in boxes as it makes for better organization and for when you go on the road.

The handle looks nice as it can convert into a T handle.

The only deal breaker is that it does not have a T27.

I rarely come across a pozi drive but it would be good to have some just for that instance.

Torx are everywhere in semis. I can honestly say I think my torx bits have more miles than most, I own a bunch of them and by far the best value is the toptul set. I have used them on my mg325 and mg725 and have never broken a bit and the T25 which is most common on freightliners is just now starting to show some signs of rounding the edges (1/4 ones I use on my milwaukee fuel impact driver with an 1/4 adapter).

That said I use the socket style for almost everything, for hand tools in torx I have these but honestly I think I've used 1 of them 1 time https://www.tooltopia.com/bondhus-3...Apg0wpIM8gScNynCSK_BN_IzpYi4ytxRoC3LQQAvD_BwE

For the places where I imagine you use the screwdriver style I use these, got them a while back when advance had a 50% off gearwrench sale. They're not used all that often but they are used and I haven't broken any yet. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001M0O18Y/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I've seen that set before, it's just a bit steep for me to duplicate a bunch of stuff I already have. Let us know how they are because I really like Felo stuff and that set looks great!

We use security torx by the case: wiha, wera, apex, witte, zypher, gearwrench, and bondus. I find the gearwrench set to be a great deal a fraction of the price and fit well, don't last too long but none seem too. I bought a few hundred of the dewalt impact bits(DWA1TS25IR2) and they are a great deal. The zypher bits are the best fit, but too hard and brittle for power tools, just for hand drive.

German small engine producers often use Wiha as the their OEM tools when it comes to torx. Get the green handled Wiha T handle set, you can put much more torque & downward pressure on fasteners than regular screwdriver handles. They come in 6 & 10 inch in length. I have the long ones & they are great for small engine work ie cylinder head bolts where you have limited space for the tool. Tips last a very long time even in workshops that use them daily.

No surprise, but I bought a set of the green T handled HF units 42926 on a Sunday night to fix a DeWalt drill for a friend. Got the job done, but the one I used was chowdered just from R&R about 8 fasteners. Going to see if they will let me return the set.

Still looking for what I will buy...

I got these a little while back but I've been a fan of Bondhus for a long time.

I don't have the whole kit, but I have the smart handle driver, and I really like it. Quickly converting to a T-handle is very handy. I just use mine with regular 3" or 6" 1/4" shank bits.

For torx drivers, I use Felo 500 series drivers, and I love them. The handles are great, and the tips are very high quality. Just buy the individual drivers you need - they're about the same price as buying them in a set. From KCToolco, the T10, T15, T20, T25, T27, T30 drivers cost $34.
