i have my eyes set on a used MAC box that was made in the 90s. I like to get more info on it before comitting to buy. How good is MAC brand since most people buy Snap On. Anyone knows who made this box for MAC ?? Is MAC part of Stanley back then? thanks

Since Mac is NOW owned by Stanley and Matco NOW is owned by Danaher.... didn't the vendors for the boxes change? I think the lower line boxes where OEMs and high end still made in house by Matco.... when mac/matco had connections with each other... I think matco did make the boxes for mac but I don't think anymore.... is this still the case?

I'd have to know which model you're referring to ... some of their boxes were farmed out, while others were made in house at their Georgetown Ohio facility.

that would be the mb910/mb920. and made in 1988. MATCO had stopped producing MAC's boxes by that time (they only made them for MAC for a few years after the split in 79). i'm relatively sure that it was made by a stanley owned company in the US. i'm not sure when the georgetown plant started producing toolboxes but i suspect that's where that model was made.

That's a 1988 model. Red with gold trim. No ball bearing slides. In those years they were nearly identical to Matco. I can't say who the OEM is though.
They're good boxes but the depth is a killer. I worked with a guy who had one. It nearly bit me when it almost tipped over. If you buy it, just make sure to close the drawers after you use them or it could tip over.

if it's the 50th anniversary version, then i believed that is the box. I have not seen the box in person yet and no photos. How good is this box compare to snap on KRA series and the c-man pro lines box?? seller asking a grand and say it's in excellent condition.
It's a well made box -non ball bearing. If it wasn't a 50th anniversary it would be worth less (not worthless). If it was in excellent shape I would pay that much just to match the one that I have. Drawers are small and not very deep. Also it's 21 years old

Unless you desperately want it for it's collector value because it is an anniversary model I don't think it is worth anywhere near a grand.
