Currently in the market for a long barrel die grinder that has a good amount of power. I've seen both Matco and Cornwell (the only 2 trucks that come to my shop) have an identical 1hp (.75 claim from Matco) long barrel die grinder. P/N MT4883L / CAT630XL. My question who makes it. I know cornwell is pretty up front about who makes their impacts atleast with IR, being that it's the beginning of their P/N, so it had me wondering if the "CAT" stood for cornwell air tool or maybe even aircat. The price difference between the two is about 100 but because I give a good amount of business to my Matco dealer, and at least with me he'll match cornwells price
The reason I ask is unfortunately it seems no one makes their own tools anymore, and with all the rebranding from sunex, vim, ingersoll, lisle, etc it's hard to keep up. But I have a bit of ocd and early in my career all I ever bought was Matco so I tend to stick with it as long as I know behind the rebranded name is a reputable/quality product. That being said if it is junk than I'll just have to look into something a little better, which is what I did when I needed an upgrade from my mt1769a (ir2135) and found out the mt2769 was made by a Taiwan company with a stolen design from ingersoll, I ended up getting the 2235timax. While it does get to me on the ocd side everytime I open that drawer, I'd rather have a good quality tool than a $500 paperweight that matches what's in my box haha
