Oh I see, do you live there or do you do shift work?

Anyways, you've got some good feedback on the sockets. As someone stated before the SKT has thicker walls on their sockets compared to GP.

I'm really happy with both brands, but then I've also used Power Fist sockets from Princes Auto for home use.

I would invest money in tools used for work. Also Impact Swivels. Do not go for cheap Impact swivel sockets or universals. I've had a cheap 3/4 dr. universal come apart while in use.

Personally, I've got my eyes on a set of the MAC Edge ones...

i got them in 1/2 drive deep 10-19mm plus 21 for $150 off the truck. they were technically a present so i could justify the expense. i havent used them much yet, but i do like them. however, no usa stamp on them, but they are beefy. id love to use them in a shop environment to test the durability, especially on rounded bolts

The Mac edge I thought were the old Blackhawks but with nice yellow and red labeling with the "teeth" at the fastener end. In the picture on there web site they just look like old Mac impact sockets

I have a set of those Blackhawk sockets from several years ago

I haven't been on a Mac truck in years but trying to hunt the one down in my area for some warranty items.

I've got a bit of credit balance on the truck I'd like to burn up... Seems like every couple of sale flyers they have em in there so rather then get a freebie 3/8" drive set, I was thinkin of asking my guy to make me a screamin deal on the 1/2" Drive Deep...full set of Metric & Inch.

i just got a new set of deep Snap-on sockets and theyre great. I do have a set of a set of craftsman standard size sockets that seem to be just as good. i think if anyone is going to make an impact socket its gonna be able to withstand a lot of use but i could be wrong.

I have a full wright 1/2" SAE set in deep and shallow at work along with the smaller 3/8" Deep SAE and the large set of shallow 3/8 drive metrics.
All awesome and I would highly recommend any of them. Mind you they're fairly expensive but I feel they are worth it.
Looking at the 1/2" metric set next.

1/2 and 3/4 drv sockets seem to all work about the same.

early 2000s(?) Wright 3/4 fem drv x 1/2 male drv 'adapters' are brittle/made of glass
suppose SO and their full replacement warranty is the way to go.... or only have 3/4 drv sockets and extensions

If you're asking who makes the best 1/2'' drive impact sockets, that would be PROTO.

I bought a tool lot a while back and it came with the better part of a complete set of 1/2" Proto impacts, 6 point. I haven't used them, but I can tell you, those things are super thick and heavy. I think the gun would fail before they did.

I'm sure someone will tell me I'm crazy, but I've never seen a whole lot of difference in expensive versus cheap when it comes to impacts. I don't use them everyday, but between the Proto's, Stanley's, and HF specials, they've all held up equally well.

I agree with you,
my oldest and most used is proto, there showing wear, after 30+ years of farm use,
but I have indistructo, HF, black hawk, and others, as well, and have them in 3/8" to 1",

a good brand name, I do not think you will go wrong, even a HF set for general use will work.

Get Wright if you can find them, they are a bit more money than a cheaper brand, but well worth it. Sunex are great value for the money. I also use Matco and Gearwrench but prefer using the Wright because they feel more substantial. Sadly their Canadian distribution *****.

Buy two sets of Grey or Sunnex and be done with it. Impact sockets are consumables especially with high power impacts.

If you care about COO then buy Proto or Wright.

just buy the pro point from princess auto, they often go on sale. i only bought the metric set(10mm-36mm) since that is all i need but they also have sae. the sockets are engraved and laser edged, they look exactly like sunex so wouldn't be surprised if they are made in the same factory. dont waste your money on snap on mac etc. cheap ones hold up just as long as the truck brands. the only sockets that are worth buying from a truck are impact swivels, but even those you can buy from some other brands online that are good enough. how stupid i was buying snap on sockets, sold most of them, and try to tell people not to do the same mistake and use that money to buy snap on dual 80's, flank drive plus wrenches and where the "high quality" really is necessary. but at the end of the day its your money so do what you think is right. just keep in mind this forum has a lot guys that actually collect tools not to perform work with them but just as a hobby and to look pretty. the pro points are just the best bang for the buck.

Budget - Harbor Freight only because price is the lowest, but the Tekton kit has more sizes.

No budget - USA made brand. Your choice.

I would not want to have sockets that aren't serviced by a truck if I was a full time user.

I'm not a pro, but I think any new impact sockets I buy will be KoKen or Wright for fixed, and Matco/Armstrong/CM pinless universals.

The Harbor Freight impacts go up to 1 1/4", and don't skip sizes.. (Not the pros) .. The Taiwan made sockets are very good for the money.. The Pro sets do not come with as many sockets as the non-pro, but both come with a lifetime warranty.. BUT - if you goto Lowes and buy the Koblat sets, they are the same exact sockets as the HF pro models, (better finish, thinner walls) but come with like 15 pieces I believe and are a full set.. HF even has 12 point impact sockets too. They have a huge following in here.. Honestly - Sunex is a great option too.. It's basically impossible to buy a bad set of impacts..
