Who makes the Craftsman Pro Torx drivers?

Osh(it) had a few of these USA made torx drivers on the clearance table. Look like a screwdriver but have a t10,t20 etc tip on the end. Craftsman pro and made in USA right on them.

I thought I was getting a great deal @ $1.79 Ea.

Looking at the tip I can see that it's not cut straight! They won't work as intended and just slip out of the torx screw.

Imagine trying to run a screw down with a screwdriver with a tip thats slanted or broken.

So i'm wondering What company made this garbage?

Are they the ones with the black and red soft grip handles? If so Western Forge.

I have set of them myself, but I've had nothing but good luck with them. I bought mine about 3 years ago though.

Yep.

They all should have WF stamped or molded into the handles followed by a single or double letter code indicating year of mfgr.

I think they're probably trying to sell a return. One of the Sears in my area had a few on their clearance table in similar condition, obviously from misuse and someone was stupid enough to refund someone their money afterwards. I bought a set of the stubby ones on clearance a couple of months ago and they're all in great shape.

Sears warranty covers misuse. You can return any Cman handtool (excluding wear items like saw blades, etc) at any time for any reason if you are not satisfied with it. Nothing in their warranty excludes misuse / abuse from being covered.

Except common sense. They may exchange it but im not going to try to screw the company over if i decide to use my Pro screwdrivers as chisels.

Since they setup their warranty like that I don't see anything wrong with returning any Craftsman tool that I break no matter how I use it. Now buying a box of rusted up old junk at a flea market for $5 and taking it in to exchange for new stuff doesn't seen right to me though.

You use to be able to get store credit instead of the tool, it this still possible? I'm not happy with the quality of the replacements aand have grown tired. Of having to go back over and over again. I'm thinking if I get the credit I can buy something else they offer vs something that's junk.

Yup thats them. There are no witnes marks on the end so I don't think they are returns. They are not twisted but cut at a steep angle from the factory I think.

I'm thinking of touching then up with a grinder or maybe even a file.

If that don't work I'll exchange them for the Chinese replacements

I sometimes use tools for things they were not designed for. I know full well that it is best to always use the right tool. The thing is, sometimes you don't have the proper tool or can't fit the proper tool where you need it, etc. In these cases, the tool you have that will accomplish the task at hand becomes the right tool for the job.

The way I see it is, Sears would change the warranty if they were too concerned about people abusing tools. They don't, that's their decision. I break something of theirs, I take it back, that's my decision. I also respect your decision, we just see it differently.

Huh?

They haven't stopped making them.

Just take the buggered one(s) in and get a new driver or driver(s) and if they are not in stock have corporate send the store what you need then go back and do an exchange when evrything is in.

They're not out of production. Just not all stores stock all products.

If you want to sell them I could use them to fill in my set. I picked up a T15, T30, and T40. for $1.79 ea plus 10% off for craftsman club appreciation or something.

I have both the long and stubby craftsman pro torx drivers and I'm not impressed with either of them. The handles are much too large, and they are too long for their size, and since the stubby's are only large sizes, I find myself using torx bits because the smaller torx screwdrivers are too long to fit in the area .

And I really, really wish they had hex bolsters like the screwdrivers do.

I'm thinking real seriously about cutting the shafts down and re-installing them in the handles.
