I have a couple of different sizes, I have picked them up at yard sales or shop sales. I don't think I have ever used one.

I have that tool or one like it. I bought it back in the late 1960's to help open up used muffler/pipes that I pulled out of the trash because I was a low (sometimes no) income student that couldn't afford to buy new exhaust systems.

They do open up grooves left by muffler clamps but don't expect them to expand the whole end of a pipe to the next size.

I have a couple of them like the GW posted. They work great to relieve one that has been clamped and cleaning up an oblong one. But making a new female end ain't gonna happen without a bunch of heat and a hell of a lot of patience.

Just take what pipe you need expanded to an exhaust shop and have them do it, should be cheap.

Also remember you can't expand old pipe that's already been heated cycled a bunch as it tends to crack rather than stretch.

I have the original one pictured and and a couple others like it, the trick with them is you must back off rotate tool and expand again. In order to keep hole round, this unit seems to be more of a push on a complete circumfrence.

I agree with LXCAM, straightening out a preclamped pipe is doable, but stretching (especially an inch) a bit fiddly.

I have a couple of different sizes, and all I've used them for successfully is making the ends of mufflers/pipes round again after they have been damaged in shipping.

That is not made to expand a pipe, it's made to repair a bent pipe. That wont expand a pipe to the next size. I have a few sizes of that type expander, you tighten them inside the dented pipe and tap the outside with a hammer, retighten and repeat.
