Who uses Foot Feed on a Drill Press?

I just put the finishing touches on my 17" Delta DP by completing the foot feed mechanism.

My question is who uses a drill press foot feed and under what drilling conditions is this a useful feature? I'm scratching my head as to it's everyday usefullness.

It would be used for production drilling of large objects that require both hands to handle. For instance drilling holes for cabinet door hinges using a 35mm forstner bit.

I often find when feeding with the hand levers it's awkward to grab the next lever when the one you are pulling on is near the end of it's stroke. Being able to use a foot control as well would cover that flat spot. You should be able to apply more pressure when necessary too. I recently installed a foot power switch. Take your foot off it and the power cuts out. It's mostly a safety feature but it's also very handy for allowing you to support your work while starting the press. I don't know how well a foot feed would work with it though. I've always liked the idea of a foot feed.

It is for everyday usage....like mentioned it is for production usage.
In general,when someone is holding the part with their hands and then us the foot pedal,to feed the drill.

Pretty sure it does not meet OSHA rules anymore

When drilling metal larger bits require a lot of down pressure. It is much easier to push on the foot feed than crank on the handles.
