Whole House Air Exchanger?

In my case it is doing exactly what i wanted. My dehumidifier has not needed to run since the dry outdoor air is tempering any indoor humidity as well as knocking down my short term radon to about 4.
My professional radon test pre hrv came back at 7 so that little monitor i pictured above is pretty accurate in case anyone is looking for one.
As i continue to improve my house it gets more sealed from what it is used to for 120 years so i'm sure i will have unexpected things to contend with.
To fully understand the situation. Would have to think about the cfm transfer. With radon -- it's constantly coming into the dwelling from the ground. So the HVR would need to be perfectly balanced in the basement and be acting as an exhaust fan w/ makeup air 24/ 7 .. having some positive pressure would be helpful to not pull in any excess from the ground. It's electric use for the fan and the loss of conditioned air in the house .... minus the now not needed dehumidifier. That saving may not be the case when the outside air becomes more humid.

In my area -- 4 triggers the need for some abatement.

My guess is best budget for a rat slab over time

Yup.......pump truck and crew would be needed..........not to mention i will need to remove posts and pour new post footings as well as remove a few yards to get the height down.........20k plus.........so i took the $600 hrv for now.

The nice thing about the Panasonic ERV (Intellibalance 100) is that it has two ECM motors, and you can control either separately...so you can balance positive or negative. It also a built in timer function, so kind of covers all the bases for a standalone unit. Efficiencies are in the 80% range.

After just finishing a kitchen reno with full gut on our 120ish year old house...not sure if "fun" is a word I would use :) In fact, I could buy a nice Tesla if foul expletives generated a return...ha.

The balancing function with some are indeed very nice ..... As i said in my area a slight positive is ideal -- but you can do them as needed. In cold climates I don't like including them in the mix as it makes them cold and the boost is not enough for my taste.

Old houses can indeed jump up and bite you --- they are never cheaper .. same with building an high end ... always better to buy existing

All this stuff is opinionated based on location.
What’s good for one feller ain’t going to be the same for the feller 300-1500 miles away.

Scientific babble. **** in a bunch of hot humid air, on purpose, in order to employ yer high dollar gadget what makes that air wonderful to use inside yer stagnant *** house.
It is interesting. Just seems way too complicated and expensive to enjoy fresh air in the house you spent a lot of money on to be as air tight as a high quality brand new zip lock bag.

And……I exchange my air every time we open a door.
so……..
stay busy, go in and out a lot, and save yer money. ~grin

I'll just post this link as my tongue-in-cheek response to that post :)
