Whole house humidifier without HVAC system

I'm tired of filling up the portable humidifier every day during the winter. I'm putting 4 gallons a day into the air due to cold weather and running a wood stove full-time. Without the stove running I use radiant panels. I want to install a heavy duty humidifying system that hooks to a water line. All the units I can find on the web need to be installed into a HVAC system.

Does anyone know of a humidifying unit that can be installed in the basement with ducts/outlets to vent to the floor above?

Thanks

Aprilaire 865 steam humidifier. Aprilaire also has a couple non ducted units that mount through a wall that might fit the bill.

Ask This Old House had an episode that installed a steam humidifier, the Aprilaire 865 that brewchief has mentioned.

Is this something you could hook up to a rain collection system? I mean, is there any reason you wouldn't want to? If you did, would you want to run it through a filtration system first?

4gal of water in one day? That's quite a lot. I also have a stove and use about 3/4-1gal. Are you looking heat some where?

What's the inside humidity your trying to keep it at? I usually keep it between 40-50* but it's been as low as 20* this winter. We have an outside air kit on the stove so we don't get a lot of air exchange. We also use a steamer on the stove but that's not enough so we also use a cold mist humidifier.

I have an older Aprilaire unit my FIL installed in his house, used a while, and then uninstalled when he put in one that went in his ductwork. It's in the box with the manuals and everything. I'm not going to use it. I can go see which one it is. I'd gladly send it to you for the cost of shipping only.
