Whoop! Finally got a lift!

I finally got myself a lift. Scissors are rare on my local Craigslist, and I've never seen a maxjax. Scissors that are reasonably priced are even more rare.

Unfortunately, any real identifying markings are gone. It has "Rotary" cast into the arms. I think it's a PAL7E, but if you guys have a better guess, I'm listening. I think it'll clean up pretty well with some naval jelly.

I called Rotary and they sent me the instructions for the PAL7E, so I can follow the instructions.

FWIW... That's actually a "swing arm short-rise lift", not a scissor lift.

Be sure to inspect everything really well. The life you save, may be your own.

It doesn't go as high as I'd like, but being limited by a ceiling and all . . .

So after a long and frequently delayed process, I used naval jelly and a couple of wire wheels to get down to good metal. I primed it with the rest of a can of self etching primer, and a couple of rattle cans of Rustoleum rusty metal primer.

For paint, I was intending to use Carson Blue to start a unifying color, a la the 12 Gauge Garage. However, I was at home depot and saw a can of Behr eggshell enamel, that was mis-tinted. It sort of looked teal and I though about the ethos of use what you can get cheap (like how the 12 Gauge Garage started). I thought teal might look pretty cool. $9 later, I had paint. Turns out, the paint was dark blue (think Bendpak). Several coats later, I have a blue lift.

It's a 10 foot, camera phone paint job. It looks good, from ten feet, on a camera phone. But I intend to use it, so I don't really care. Next up, is to get some new hoses and give it a proper christening.

The first 3 are how I got it, the next two are bare metal, the last two are painted.

I just picked up one of these Rotarty PAL7E lifts this weekend. I remember these from the early to mid 80's when I used to sell Snap On Tools. A few of my customers had home garages, and some of them had these lifts. Not good for doing trannies and exhaust, but great for brake, tire, and light body work. I do a lot of riding mower/ lawn tractor work, and this is the perfect critter for that. It will lift my half ton pickup with no problem. I'll post some pictures soon.

After looking into maxjack and finding out they only do 6k lbs, I am curious how much these kinds of lifts do? What are they actually rated for?

Thanks sir. I got one from Rotary in the meanwhile too. I also ordered the sealing kit to fix up the cylinder. Will let you know how it goes.
