Good grief. Just call them and threaten to cancel if they want to charge you. I cut my comcast line at least 2 or 3 times and they always either repaired or ran a new line.

Comcast was only burying underground cables a few inches down until the last couple of years. I guess the cost of repairs was less than the cost of doing the burial right.
My cable was replaced with a temporary cable about 18 months ago. The tech said the new cable would be buried 12" deep and put in conduit. It sounds like Comcast finally decided that doing it right is cheaper than constant repairs and upset customers.

Comcast cable burial tends to be performed by contractors, often that only do the burial part. It shifts the liability and equipment cost off the company. As a result cables not down far enough are common and they just kind of write it off as the contractor cutting corners. They still make money in the end.

In my case Comcast did indeed use a sub to trench the drop 4-6" deep. Used a nice machine trencher. I guess the guy did't put it down deeper, fortunate for me.

I had one Miss Utility guy tell me point blank that Comcast just responds "No Conflict" vs paying the $ to have it marked and if it gets hit, then they come. This was after the 4th-5th time I called Miss-U to get the known Comcast conflict marked and gave up. Not really sure who pays Miss Utility but I know its not me.

Our cable comes to the house thru the air rather underground. I would prefer it to be underground, but it has never been underground, at least not at our house it isn't, and I don't know of anyone around here who has their cable going to their house underground. I have no idea why that is.

Because the plant is overhead.
Theyre not gonna run cables underground if theres telephone poles.
The obly neighborhoods that get underground cable are the ones where the power feed is underground as well.
Theres a few neighborhoods in town like that. One is from the 70s...

Call your cable company, I have done a few jobs where the customer wanted the coax underground. I installed the conduit and stubbed it up at the pole with a pull string installed. They came and continued the conduit up the pole and used the sting to pull there coax in.

My previous house I tore down a house that had poles and an overhead feed. I assumed when I built a new house on the lot it would have an overhead feed. Xcel said nope, we are putting the feed underground. Comcast and US West also put their feeds underground since Xcel did.
I live in the Minneapolis area and pretty much all new developments since the late 1970s have been underground utilities. The suburb I live in passed an ordinance in the 1970s requiring underground utilities for all new developments.

My electric and cable are overhead too. The day I moved into my house, I had the Comcast guy come to hook up the cable and internet. I could've done it myself, but Comcast basically wouldn't let me and required a tech to come and hook everything up for me, and I guess make sure the cable wiring was up to the task. There was no charge for this visit. He ended up installing a new service drop to the house, and new cable to the living room and bedroom.
A few days later, I come home from work and found myself looking at the exterior of the house, where the service drop is (I don't remember why), and I noticed that my cable service was gone! There was no overhead cable in sight. Nothing laying on the ground, nothing hanging from the pole.
My guess is the service was too low and a tall truck driving by hit it (the service runs across the street to the pole on the other side). I called Comcast and they had someone come out the next day to replace it. I told the lady on the phone that I shouldn't be charged for the visit since their tech just installed it the previous week. They didn't charge me and it's been fine since then.mobiledynamics

Off topic...but man the utilities and what they will eat. I've had a coax replaced...mainly because it was supposedly failing about 40 feet off the house. This was a big thick 500 coax cable. They ran a bullet for 280'ish feet 18 inches deep at no cost to me .
If I had one of my elec. come and do it, would have been a easy 5K bid...

yes. 500 cable - It was around 1 1/2 - 2" thick.....RG11 would have done the distance

True story: When this happened I worked in a municipal radio shop, and have worked with radios & coax cable for almost 30 years. One morning, an IT guy called and said some vandal had reached over a fence and cut this cable nite before. This pic is what he tried to do to 'fix' it and get the plaza Wi-Fi back. Grabbed tools & spare connectors, had it up & working 10 minutes after I got there.
Backstory? They'd had a contractor put in the 'free public wi-fi' on this plaza. Except they cheaped out on installations like this, leaving them available to knuckleheads, and left no as-built documentation about where things were, and went out of business. Great contract administration, eh?
