THAT is what pisses me off about Snap On. I have to do the research on every potential purchase to make certain it is not a rebrand, or I get f**ked on the purchase. Some of my tools are snap on. None of them are rebrands. Every time I've found out a purchase I was considering was a rebrand, I bought it elsewhere. They have more rebranded stuff than a lot of people realize, and taking the given example of that welder, there's nothing they've done to add $1700 worth of value to that $1800 welder. They just marked the price up that much because f**k you, that's why.

I searched the snap on catalog for razors and found nothing. So much for them being the be-all and the end-all for solving problems.

Buddy if i can afford Hazet, Gedore, Heyco, Wera and other high dollar GERMAN brands I can afford Snap-On. Snap-On is overpriced for what you are getting period. The design, fit and finish are nothing compared to GERMAN brands.


But nice try.

A lot of people can afford SO just fine...but choose not to because they think it is a waste of money.

So instead of SO, I buy new streetbikes, late model trucks with aftermarket bolt-on's, guns, ammo, reloading equipment, welders, plasma's, 4x4 truck parts, ATV's, build big blocks, etc...

Yes, my 'hobbies' might be a dumb use of money to some...but it damn sure provides more fun than a ratchet or wrench set...no matter what brand!

Chicane, there is a lot of German stuff that isn't as German as its branded too. Eastern European and Asain makers got their foot firmly in the door now too.

I'm a fan of Euro tools some myself, but the Wurth stuff I bought at sometimes obsene prices didn't all turn out to be German. All but two items turned out to be high quality though. The Japanese made quad ratchet wrenches are a fave of the lot and well made in their own right.

In my market Wurth is the only source of such things in local buys, so that is how I got them.

If the goal is to have only true _______ made stuff the same search that Kinzemech makes with SO stuff has to be done. Blindly buying into any brand on trust won't work anymore.

I wasn't actually on the truck. He had to stop and pick it up at his warehouse. I guess when you service an area that has as many ships as Hampton Roads thinks like this do pop up occasionally and its good to be prepare. I don't think he drove around with one as part of his normal inventory.

I also don't see it in Snap On's normal catalog. Special order maybe?

Yes indeed...But MANY of us have all that ****, You will also need to add a shitload more stuff to the list. PLUS a full-on Snap-on Jealousy kit.

If you play your cards right you can have all the cool **** plus the badass tools to work on it. No need to work with **** tools... I mean who is actually PROUD to use **** tools ? Oh wait...nevermind.

LCA takes everything into account. Warehousing of paper bags, lighting in the warehouse, how much energy it takes to dispose of or recycle...heck they analyzed the copper and wanted to know which country it came from to score how clean the mining process was to the environment. There are scores for environment, carbon footprint, human impact, a bunch of different scorecards that are somewhat related. It turns out our equipment used a lot more energy during it's useful life than building it. How efficient it was to run became a LOT more important than building, delivery, installation, and end of life. It's a really interesting and complicated thing to do a life cycle analysis.

I'm the guy that buys Hazet, Gedore, Stahwille and Wera all brand new. They are often times much more expensive than Snap-On, and are of higher quality as well. I prefer to use them at home, although I have some sets I use at work. I don't like to let anyone borrow them at work lol.

I'm the guy that buys Snap-On only used, and I use Snap-On only at work so I can beat 'em up, let others borrow them, and not care too much how beat up they get. They may not feel great in my hands, and they may look like Chinese, but they perform when I need them to.

Why do those who buy affordable brand have to justify their purchase against those who buy snap-on and vice versa. Why does it matter what you buy as long as it works for you.

True. But when I say GERMAN, I mean I pay very close attention to the COO. I research and only buy the German tools made in Germany, with a few exceptions. I do have some nice Wiha tools made in Italy, and some Bosch made in Poland.
