Yeah. I've never had the privilege of cheap tools with convenience like the tool truck. I'd prefer that over having to run across town to get to napa for a 5 dollar socket

Napa comes to you though.
They bring a part, and i fet a replacement, if needed.

Snap-on can be had at reasonable prices. My local SO guy just folded shop and he was selling at cost or damn close to it. Before that he always had a quarterly special and trade ins as well as repos could be had reasonably.
First time I used a Dual 80 I was hooked, I have all kinds of other ratchets but have been switching all over to SO in my main box.

Got a question for y'all - What are some really good European hand tool makers? Ratchets, sockets, pry bars and the like.

Snap-On, MAC, MATCO seem to be the mainliners by name for some. I like the person's idea a few posts back. He said he is replacing some of his tools with more industrial types. Same here. Didn't have money or means way back when. Now that I'm a little older I want better tools to pass down the gene trail. But not before I use the heck out'a them.

I like Craftsman because they are cheaper on the wallet than most and easy to replace. Don't get me wrong on the word cheap. I've got some craftsman tools that are over 30 years old and I use them all the time. I've only one screwdriver and one ratchet eat it. The screwdriver wasn't really Craftsman fault.

I just bought a Williams 1/4 drv long handle flex ratchet, M-52EHFA, on E-Bay for $36 with shipping. I've got three or four Snap On ratchets that I splurged on but still my SK ratchets have never failed me even with a four foot cheater pipe.

They deliver tools too? They carry the Carlyle line?

Just bought some Carlyle hex ball socket sets from NAPA. Store had them on sale and with a $2.99 Stuff The Bucket promo for additional 20% off including on sale items I figure I did good.

Ok, so let me stop working and clock off. Drive to sears/HF get the item(if in stock.) Then go back to work. Sorry......not worth it.

Call my SO guy and he shows up with the tool....done.

 Your SO guy is going to skip his last stop...a 20-bay dealership...on Friday (payday)...just to drive 15 miles to your shop for one broken tap? Yeah...I don't think so.
If 6 people called the SO guy a day with a problem like yours...he wouldn't have time to sell tools and collect payments.

Well...not unless you are giving your SO guy a little sucky-sucky behind the truck... :scared:

I have several friends who work in shops, and all have active accounts with the tool trucks. Unless it's a shop-owned tool that is necessary for the business to stay open (company owned 1" impact gun & sockets in a Class 8 repair shop for example)...the driver is going to tell you to borrow someone else's until he gets back to your shop on his designated day.
He might tell you to meet him somewhere on your lunch break...or if he's driving by your shop on his way to another he might pop in for a second...but he's not gonna be your personal tool guy on call 24/7. That's not how it works in my area anyways...

Why Buy Snap-ON?

Cause there are three kinds of people in this world...

#1 Those that buy Snap-On

#2 Those that wish they could buy Snap-On, and quietly keep it to themselves, and hope someday they can step up to the best.

#3 Those that wish they could buy Snap-On and go on and on and on buying and comparing other brands that don't even come close. The ones that are the loudest are the ones that wish they could have Snap-On the most. Believe that.

Which one are YOU ?

There are two kinds of people in the world.

1) Those who think all people fall into 2 or 3 neatly numbered categories
2) Those who don't.

It's just not that black and white.

I don't buy brands.

I don't choose a brand, and then select my tools from that brand. I choose a tool. What brand it happens to be is of secondary concern.

I work at a dealer with more than 32 bays. He stops by us on a friday. I haven't had a problem with him stopping by to warranty a tool. In fact the Matco guy does is it too.

Dont think you have had any experience with SO tools, or your driver was just a douchebag.

I have a KRL1023, approx 3 years old, this week when unlocking it the key kicked out when it was half unlocked, I couldnt get the key back in to finish locking or unlocking.
I was able to get the cylinder out and called my rep, he brought me a new cylinder and 1 key.
I received 2 keys when i bought the box, so I asked, where is the other key? he said " Im warrantying the cylinder, you'll have to buy another spare'
So I am thinking about this, getting steamed.
I paid almost 10 for the box, and he's boning me for a 20$ key?
Box is paid for, truck balance is zero, Im not an A+ SO customer, but I think I deserve better than that!
What do you guys think?

A new key costs how much? Buy a new one and become a Snappy A+ customer.

Should I expect LL Bean to warranty their US-made boots because I broke a bootlace?

Should I expect Bean to replace the bootlaces for free, or do I go spend 2 bucks and move on in my life?

Will this thread ever end? :dunno:

If it explicitly states that they are covered under warranty for X amount of time and it is within that time frame then ABSOLUTELY.

I think your dealer *****. A new cylinder comes with 2 keys, he gave you one he had laying around that had a missing key.

http://store.snapon.com/TOOL-STORAGE-MAINTENANCE-C629529.aspx

Notice, they all come with 2 keys from the factory. When he got the lock kit it had 2 keys.

Yeah, he *****.

SPOT ON! I just love when guys say this sh!t as if they are the only customer they have. No jackwagon the tool truck guy is not going to run his heavy rig all the way from the other side of town to replace your broken socket...gimme a break. This myth about concierge service is complete bullsh!t.

People buy Snapon because you can get it on credit. Also because Mac and Matco are mostly rebrands and almost HF on wheels. And I have and like some matco stuff. I use any and every USA tool brand you can think of at work every day. The things I would say Snap on makes that are exceptional are their hardline/hand tools. The quality and metallurgy are great.

For me I still think there are other brands like proto,sk, wright, williams that are nearly as good for half the price. So for my personal tools I wont ever buy brand new/full retail snap on. Thats just my opinion. Doesn't mean they aren't great. When it gets crazy is when people are brand loyal to a fault. Dont buy a snapon rebrand for 3x the original manufacturer and you will be alright.

Edit-Mac is getting better from what I have read on here. That is great. I do have a soft spot for blackhawk/proto but not a blind following.

A $20 key that values about $2 in actual money so yeah, that is SO truck service shining through. I'd accept a $20 replacement lock though. When one fails to see the blatant inflation in that its gotta be really great tasting KoolAid.

I have nothing against SO or any other brand but unless that key is made of 24K gold something isn't right.

Spend yours any way you want but that seems wasteful to me.

Red Wing boots*. They provide a free tuneup whenever I need it (thorough cleaning and oiling), discounted insoles, and free replacement bootlaces for the life of the boot. I think resoles are highly discounted as well.

This is a service that is reasonable to expect from a company, similar to Snap-On, that has a high price point, touts toughness as a strong selling point, and is made in the USA. I've never had a Red Wing Shoes representative give me trouble.

*Red Wing boots and Irish Setter boots. I do not know much about their affordable line of shoes/boots or warranties provided thereto.

:shocking: I had a customer come in the other day. 9 years ago, I did extensive engine work on his truck. I have not seen him in............. 9 years. He pulls in, says how great his engine has been, and shows me his loose hood when up, and it has a missing hinge bolt. I pop the cowl piece to access the hinge, replace it, and before I can say anything... He says that should be under warranty! He reached in his pocket and handed me 45 cents for the bolt!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MORAL of the story.

Even if you provide a great service and product. There is always some cheap, ridiculous, enema holding, self entitling ******; that thinks. The whole ******* world owes him something; because one day, in the distant past, he spent some money somewhere.

Heck even car manufacturers warranty runs out before a decade for all...

Bet my old customer is on his 3rd pair of free something, and has some old tools, he needs replacing; that he found somewhere.

I don't need ridiculous customers, nor does any other company.

It is unreal the entitlement people somehow believe they should get.

I would never we a tool dealer. The 1000th customer that wanted his grandfathers old tools replaced; because they were in a damp basement for 40 years; would get his *** beaten in a severe manner. :lol_hitti

Last note... I wasn't going to charge the guy, but...........................it was the attitude, and smug tone he gave me. I don't want his business'''

Alot of these tool companies, don't want all the whiners and the aboves either. We don't care about the 5% ers that are this way. We hope they LEAVE! lol

WOW!!! 42 pages of why buy a certain brand? :wtf:

How many pages does it take to say:

I want to
I can
I will
or $5000 in tools is only $50 a week for 100 weeks

Tools are an individual choice. You not liking a person's choice doesn't make it wrong.

You better call my dealer because he's doing it all wrong. I've had stuff i needed warranty on or just needed to buy something and maybe he didn't come that day but if i really needed it he would get it there asap for me. I needed a new battery for my impact that wasn't a big deal and he didn't have one, 2 days later when his routed came near the shop he had it dropped off and waiting for me the next day.
