Why did you choose your tool brand?

I try to buy the best quality I can afford at the time. There are a lot of good brands out there and I'm not loyal to any one in particular.

Im not loyal to any one brand of hand tool or corded power tool for that matter. I do keep with one line of cordless power tools simply for the cost and ease aspect of sharing batteries and chargers. All of my cordless power tools are currently Dewalt 18v. but Makita, Milwaukee, Ridgid etc. are all comparable brands.

I use mostly craftsman as I was brought up on them. My first tool set was from sears. When I worked as a service mechanic, I bought into the tool truck BS. I spent a lot of money and didn't see much difference between the Craftsman wrenches, sockets etc I did like the tool truck ratchets because back in the 80's, craftsman didn't make a ratchet with an ergonomic handle. I still have both the craftsman and tool truck brand tools I had then and I still don't see the difference. I'm probably not a good enough mechanic to tell.

Knipex- my aircraft mechanic friend recommended their pliers and pliers wrench for our company's box.

NWS- saw they were similar, but had some improved designs, great selections, more affordable

Stahlwille- many forum recommendations and a too good to be true deal on amazon. Will report back on that.

Witte- loved using my friends Matco drivers but knew I didn't want to pay the markup.

Wiha- bought their hex keys and dead blows. I really like the deadblows, can't wait for the T handle and Nut Drivers.

Craftsmen- hand me downs and evolve for school tools
Harbor Freight- don't talk about my ugly baby

Facom- great sale on obstruction wrenches which I love so far.

Ask me about gear wrench sometime

Simply put...

Snap-on hasn't been bankrupted, sold off, bought out or passed around. They make most of their core products (in North America) and I'm sure they have more invested in R&D than every other tool manufacturers in the US combined. Their logistic, technical support and customer service has been top notch in my experience. The only other company that can compete is Napa, too bad they don't actually make any tools themselves and charge as much as Snap-on for offshored rebrands.

For whatever reason Matco and Mac never shows up to my work even though I know they visit the dealerships nearby. Oh well.

i own hand tools from several makers and primarily use and collect Snap-on. i also use/collect Snap-on boxes, carts, old creepers and such. i've always been impressed by the quality of Snap-on hand tools and the further back in time they go, the more i like 'em.
