When two adults ( not kids) broke into my garage ( only 10 feet from my bedroom window) I had two motion sensor lights, several security warning signs in the yard, and a large AKITA sleeping not 15 feet away........They carried off approx 1000 bucks worth of stuff. I had a funny feeling they would return and they did one week later at the same time. This time I caught them leaving empty handed because they heard me evidently when I got up. I went to the front of my house and watched as they walked from the back and all I could do was to shout "I had a gun" and guess what? one ran away and the other just stood there looking at me calling my bluff, Too bad I didnt really have a gun. I do now (shot gun with slugs) and I will stay within the law when I use it.

I am 55 years old and was barefooted at the time. "BEAT THE GUY UP"? Thats a good way for me to get shot. He more than likely was armed and I wasnt, I went inside and I guess he figured I was calling the cops so he ran away. If there is ever a next time I am 100% certain the chain of events will be a little differant.

Not sure where your from, but in rural GA we don't shout I have a gun. We shoot the gun and they find out soon enough. :shoot5: I have a concealed carry permit and GA says you have the right to protect your stuff with force.

You should have had a real security system, not just some lights and a sleeping dog....Years ago, someone broke into my garage and stole all my tools as well, so I put in a good security system. Last spring it paid for itself: one night, someone kicked in the side door of my garage at 4am. The magnetic switch on the door alerted the security system, which set off a 130db siren inside the garage and then called the central monitoring office. They immediately called me back to make sure I was OK, then called the cops. By the time I got my pants on and ran outside, the burglar had been scared away and the cops were there to investigate.

I figure the cost of the security system and the monitoring service was worth every penny.

Shoot him with a camera, get a good flash. Chances are good the cops know his face real well from arresting him 10x before.

So are you saying they bypassed your alarms or the alarms did not work?
At the time I didnt have my shop hooked up to my security system in my house. I almost always lock it and I was out there working till after 130am. They came at around 4.

That just ***** man.
Too bad you didn't have the shotgun BEFORE the second time. Would have been much better to say "I have a gun, get on the F-ing ground" and fire a warning shot in the air.
I did something close in an old apartment. Some punks were creeping around the building early one morning, and they were right under my bedroom window, which was open. I crept to the window, and picked up the pump shotgun I kept by my dresser with the action open. My room was pitch black, but one of them saw my silouhette (sp?) in the window, stopped, whispered to one of the other 5 and pointed up at me. That's when I racked the slide and chambered a round. A pump shot gun chambering a round in the dead of night is a VERY distinct sound. And, it would appear, unmistakable.
They hauled ***, and were across the street and down the block before I could run through my small apartment and get out the front door. I'm thinking they were highschool track stars.

Fairlane, what part of Charlotte do you live in? I now live in Huntersville by Parks at the Lake (Chevy) off of Statesville road. When I first moved here in 1992 I had my garage robbed...tool boxes and my Honda lawnmower were stolen....the Charlotte cops are worthless!

I spent a week in Charlotte at a physics conference 4 years ago. It was at UNCC. Nice campus but man that city is crowded. Driving on I85 from the hotel to UNCC everyday was not pleasant. I still come over that way a couple times a year. A appliance repair guy told me he often spends 30 to 45 minutes just driving from one repair job to another.
