Why do so many seem to hate pegboard?

I must admit I've a pegboard in my garage, I've a set of metric spanners on that, and I've a Snap on top box with the pegboard built in the lid too, I just keep my ratchets on it, so it's easy to see when someone has been borrowing them!

I dislike pegboard because it is always dusty and dirty. I generate a lot of dust w/ my hobbies. Metal work and a little woodworking. I like cabinets and toolboxes to cut down on the dust all over my tools. Grinding dust is a nuisance to clean off of your tools.

Just remember kids, the original pegboarders were Quakers. Chairs, tables, etc were prominently displayed on pegs off the floor and kept dusted and clean.:bounce:

I don't have the floor room for a tool box. It would be great to be able to have everything in a tool box. In my case peg board has worked good. Granted it's not for everyone.

Trying to come up with pegboard without all those little holes in it.
Nice to have things neat and orderly; but going over a wall of pegboard with that little hole cleaning brush every week is taking up allot of time.:eyecrazy:

You clean every hole? I don't think I know anybody who cleans their pegboard. Maybe some compressed air or a shop vac (or both)?

I see pegboard as having a use in a dedicated spot or if you have run out of space in your toolbox. Since harbor freight opened up a local store they've made my tool box a lot smaller :)

Dismount it and paint it.
It is not sealed from the store and will soak up moisture and smells.

I don't mind pegboard as long as it is made from Metal not wood.

Here is a bench I made almost 20 years ago with some left over Pegboard we assembled into an Everyready Battery Display I design for Walmart back in 1994. Last year I replaced all my Work Bench Pegboard backers with Aluminum panels custom fit with Electrical wired in.

The third picture is my welding bench. Peg allows me to keep all my "stuff" off the table but within reach. And I pretty much know when anything is missing.

I plan on installing some pegboard in my garage, but not to store tools. It will be used to store random materials and consumables, like rolls of brake line, spare belts, hose clamps, containers with bits of hardware in them, etc.

Only on GJ would there be a peg board criticism thread. Who gives a f@ck what you do or don't use, peg board is the most readily available and pocket book friendly wall storage system on the planet. No, it isn't meant to hold 300lbs of tools on one peg, but if you space stuff out enough it's like having the most organized and largest drawer in a tool chest. Only problem is stuff gets dusty.

I like pegboard for commonly used hand tools. Easy access and high visibility. I also have a bunch of tool chests and sometimes lose track of what's in them. The only thing more fun than buying a tool, then discovering that you already had one...is doing that multiple times!
