I dont understand why some shops...Big and Small...write up a quote for service, and Yet, Never really even looked at your Car?
My Son was on his way home from work and called me, saying that his brakes feel "Soft" and his Brake light is on.
I had him stop at a station and fill his fluid up.
That got him home, but brakes were still soft.
The next morning, he went to Midas, which is close to his house.
It allowed him to drop it off for an estimate and he was able to walk home.
Later they called him to let him know that he needed $838 worth of work.
(Now, we just did his brakes in the Spring)
So, I picked him up later that day and went over there to check out this $838 Service Quote.
They said his Master Brake Cylinder was Bad.
Both Rear Wheel Cylinders were bad (the Left rear was leaking)
And that he needed pads and drums in the rear (due to saturation of brake fluid)
So, when I questioned both sides...they made up some store policy ********!
I brought the Van (1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager) to my House.
None of the insides of the Rims were Wet.
I tore the Left Rear Brakes apart and it was Dry (rusty and dirty), but Dry.
I replaced the Master Cylinder (just In case)
Filled the Fluid up and Pumped up the Brakes...
Heard a Hiss and spit...Saw the Fluid leaking from the Proportioning Valve mounted in front of the left shock, next to the Gas Tank.
(I hear that they can freeze and leak...we just finished -18 degree weather)
Trick was cracking the Fittings loose without twisting up the Brake lines.
But, I was able to get that changed. And Bleed the Brakes...Done!
A $40 part, that was All.
Those Asses at St. Charles Midas never even looked at the Van and Made up an Inflated Quote for service...Hell, They never even charged my son for an Inpection Fee!
What a Rip Off Shop!!!
