Why does my staple gun do this?

Gun- Stanley 'heavy duty' tr110
Staples- arrow t-50 1/2"

Has anybody ever ran into this? Sometimes worse than others, but my staple gun will mangle the staple when it exits the gun. I have to pull it out and do it over. Is there an adjustment or something I'm doing wrong? The attachment is a prime example after I pulled it out of some particle board.

My first guess would be the staples are too light for the material you are trying to staple to. The points do not penetrate the material before the hammer in the stapler fully extends; the staple has to go somewhere.

^^ Yup. Happens quite often when you try to staple into hard material. Try using a heavier staple that is physically stronger.

Particle board may not be super strong, but it is fairly hard due to all the glue in it holding it together.

Hi,
Yes this happens in particle board with a manual gun.. An air stapler might be strong enough.
There may be an ugly little volcano eruption where the staples go in even with an air stapler. Best results for me are adhesive and a brad nailer to pin the material in place while the adhesive sets..
Not what you want to hear I am sure..

I've used short staples in particle board without issue but I have to put a lot of pressure on the top of the gun with my left hand before pulling the trigger with my right hand.
