why does SO air chuck have a male fitting?

I just opened my SO GA358 air chuck (with hard handle!) and was surprised to see a male fitting on the end -- why would they do this? Wouldn't you want a female fitting, like a standard air tool, so you could install a male quick connect fitting and connect directly to the female quick connect fitting on the end of your air hose? Or am I missing something? It seems that I should start looking to see if I have a female threaded male quick connect fitting lying around.

I keep male/female fittings and connectors around. It's a pain stocking all 4 types in two sizes (1/4 and 3/8) but I always have what I need, when I need it. I have several tools (nailers for one...) that take a female connector.

Oh, I have no doubt about this at all... It is rather amusing -- that is literally how this thing is constructed!

Yeah, I didn't pay $24...that's crazy for a chuck, unless it has a gauge built in.

It looks similar to a Kastar 915, aka an "E-Z Grip Air Chuck Tool". Hard to find an internet deal much better than the Snap-on when shipping costs are factored in. I couldn't find the handle by itself.

The Kastar 780 and 782 are similar to the Snap-on GA359. This is the 780:

You just get a male quick connect fitting with a female end. Quite common. I get the Milton brand at my local Ace Hardware.
