Why don't they make these anymore?

My dad has a Craftsman 1/4 Drive Socket Set.

It's in a black, blow molded case.

The 1/4 drive socket sets carried today are sold in both metric and standard sizes.

Well if you want to carry metric and standard, you have to carry two sets.

This set has BOTH. It goes from 4 mm to 13 mm, and 5/32 to 1/2

There is also a spot for a ratchet, and a hand driver.

The PN is 34796.

Because that makes sense? Nowadays they put 300 piece tool sets on sale, Half that **** you're never going to use!! Reinventing the wheel + profits = **** made in china. Oops sorry..

An is you dont mind taiwan made tools. Lowes has a set of 1/4 dr with metric and sae. And it sells for about 25 dollars.

Because you seldom need just a socket set to do a job and the blow molded case takes up too much room in a toolbox.

I have a couple of SK sets that came in fancy cases like that. Took everything out of them an put the sockets on rails.

Like Shoturtle said, if you dont mind Taiwan, there are some decent Kobalt sets out there.

I wanted some low cost stuff so I picked up this set on sale for $22 last summer to carry around in my truck tool box. Super set for the money. Metric and SAE sockets, 3 8-pt sockets, 72t ratchet, breaker bar, spinner handle, extensions, and u-joint. And it has bit sockets instead of the usual filler bits. It'll probably be on sale again around fathers day.
