Galvanized steel pipe? I've seen them where they essentially rust inside to the point that water stops flowing.

Between that and the plaster they used to glue the pedestal sink to wall I dont know which part was worse.
Ended up busting sink up just to get it off of wall

Going back to repipe tomorrow morning, hopefully I can get water lines broke loose.

Yikes! So in 1919, the plumbing systems for potable water were galvanized steel?

My parents' house is from 1950 and is plumbed with copper, except at the very same elbow you show in your photo, it was galvanized steel and then stubbed out with steel. Of course, some 15 years ago it looked just like yours and I had to cut the back side and solder new elbows. Luckily, the back was in a closet.

Yep galvanized pipe was common for water up until 50s-60s around here.
I remember digging up some old wooden water mains in the old market part of Omaha way back when,we were told they were from 1800s.

Working on old buildings can be a nightmare, not just the plumbing but everything else too. I don't even like working on old homes, and old apartments are far worse. I have only worked on one old apartment, a good friend of mine wanted some help, and I swore up and down never again would I get involved in something like that. Once you get started you keep finding more and more things wrong. It never seems to end.

No pex allowed in omaha.

The following copied from the online Omaha code:

.

General: PEX SDR9 may be used for potable water in single family dwellings, townhouses and for high purity water. It shall not be co-mingled, inserted or mixed with other materials except as permitted below. Fittings and connections shall comply with the following standards and provisions

Depends on what part of town you're in.
The chiefs ***** has always been that the chlorine in our water tears it up,problem being that Bellevue has same water supply and it's been allowed there for years.
Omaha has annexed a lot of small towns in the last few years that were under differant code ,more like UPC versus Omaha which is closer to national code.
So I'd say it depends on what area you're working in.
