Why fiber cement planks versus sheets?

I'm going to be building several sheds, about 256 sq feet or less, in several states. I had planned on using Hardiepanels (the 4x8 sheets) or equivalent based on using them to replace T1-11 about 8 years ago with excellent results so far.

But it seems most of the discussion on here is about the planks. Is there some advantage the planks have?

All I did to the sheets was hang them with screws and a cordless drill, run a line of caulk between them, paint them and watch them for 8 years.

not sure that caulking them would do the trick as you would see the seams. I had panels installed and had batons added on the seams and it looks great

My shop is done in planks with trim over the seams. My house is done in planks. I personally think the planks look a million times better. Planks are slower because you have to take your time lining them up properly so you don't end up with uneven lines.

But, on a shed? Panels would be fine since I see panels/board and batten and immediately think of it as looking like a shed when it's on a house. In Michigan, every shed is t-111 or b&b so that's what we think of.

Now, if the house is planked Hardie, then planked Hardie shed to match is pretty cool. Or just planked Hardie on the shed in general will make it stand out from every other prefab shed out there

The Planks do look good. But i am matching a house with the lower portion that had stucco failure. I am putting Thermo Ply first then House wrap then hardi Panel Stucco panels. Looks great. Hardi Says to caulk between panels and leave an 1/8 inch gap. I am planing on Putting Veneer stone over it. I am ordering a Freeman Siding nailer and will also screw some of the panels. The nails are better because it seals as it shoots and the screws can crease the board and let water behind.
