Seen it, lived it. Agree you can put a slide rule against it but in the end doesn't mean squat, very marginal. Cost reduced to affordable ++++++++ One cheap Sears socket set in hand worth all the best in the bush.

some guys like blondes some guys like red heads, some like Fords, others still prefer Chevys. :dunno:

Even if you strength tested sockets and other tools, there's more to selecting tools than strength. It's all a matter of individual taste when it comes to fit, feel, finish, balance, and price. I mean take wrenches for example, Say (just saying) SK was the strongest, I still wouldn't get their combination wrenches because I feel they're wide in the hips and have too much metal around their boxed ends but, that's just me.

As for the Snap on kool aid, first, don't mix tools and swag. Swag is collector type stuff that for some reason people want. Tools are a different matter. Go into a car dealers service area and see what the heavy line techs are using day in and day out. They'll be different brands but, most everyone will have some snap on. Don't forget that there are other reasons to buy a truck brand aside form the tool itself. Things like easy financing, truck to you service, and being to earn with your new tools as you pay them off.

in the end it's what feels good in your hand, what you can afford, and what lasts. Tests are just that and sometimes test conditions can be manipulated to achieve certain results. TO ME, it's being able to stand the test of time and sustained use that matters. Have a great tool day:beer:

It looks like there is a blanket assumption somehow the 2$ tool has broke and needs to be replaced. I say its still here and still works good. I am not saying the 30$ tool didn't.

No, it wont change a thing. When some cheap infiltrated our collection to replace some good that busted then it means something. If a guy care about some marginal testing then thats great, but if a guy wants to get er done with stuff that will also last a lifetime and within a self described low duty cycle then a HF breaker bar which is both long and strong would be a decision that a guy needs 300 worth of ratchet sitting around for a couple bolts on occasion when 50$ in all would be sufficient and beyond.

Why hasn't an independent company stress tested various sockets, ratchets, and wrenches from the dozen or so well known tool companies?

I've seen it with air filters, oil filters, and even oil in the car sector.

This would end the ever proverbial ******* match of "SK is better than Snap on", "Armstrong is better than SK", etc.

Surely a simple machine with an electronic torque readout could stress test various tools until they crack or fail otherwise.

If there were huge variations in ultimate strength, competitive advertising would gleefully point it out.

The AMAZING WonderWrench takes TWICE the torque that DESTROYED the Brand X wrench -- AND IT KEEPS ON GOING!!
