The cost of some tools often plays a part in my decision in tool purchase. But I am a careful buyer, I try to do my homework B4 espensive purchases on tools. When I blow through a screwdriver, faster then I deem warrented, i try a different brand. When a particular brand stands the test of time, gradually other screwdrivers will get replaced with that brand. I have a big selection of tools that i use daily, and I have a lot of brands. My tools are well used, but not abused. Often I am in the middle of nowhere repairing something, and it is a habit to just use the right tool for the job. Often my tool replacements are due to losing a tool. How many times have I replaced 10mm sockets because I misplaced(usually temporarily)? My tools are always clean, or get cleaned, but I am not a tool polisher. My tools are spread out in about 6 different hand boxes in my service truck, each box serving different purposes. I have brand preferences, and brands that I stay clear of. When I stay clear of a particular brand it is because of bad past experience. For the daily tools I am more mindful of the tools quality when purchasing, leaning to the tried tested and true. For the less used tools, my money stays in the wallet, but still I buy good stuff, just not nec. the cream at the top. Ease of warrenty is part of the decision, but I very rarely warrenty. (I used to warrenty CT stuff, but I won't use that stuff anymore, I still use CT wrenches and sockets though, never needed to warrenty them.) This was just a long way of saying, I do chose SO on some things, and will chose other brands for other things. SO is not the only good tool maker out there, just comes down to personal pref., and money. Cheers!
