Why is it so hard to upload pics.

Why is it so hard to upload pictures on this site? I have tried for a long time and it says upload faild. I belong to other web sit forams and it is so easy. I have tried to up load pics of my garage build and I can't seem to get it done. Can someone tell me the trick?

I usually only get that message when my pics are too big. Try compressing them maybe.

I put all my photos on photo bucket and just post the image link here. Not only is it easier, but you can post the pics anywhere afterwards, and they show up a lot larger than the little postage stamp photos I got when I posted pics here.

I use flickr (free)...first upload your pics there and then grab the BBC code link they provide ... copy /paste. like so....

Have you checked the settings on the camera? That was my problem. Too many megapixels make the photo use to much memory to post to the site. Switch the camera to PC or less megapixels.

I find it is easiest to send the photos to your computer. Using a picture hosting site just complicated it for me.

If you are using your phone, sent the pics to your email. When you get to a computer, post the pics to your computer. You should be able to find them when you hit the browse tab.

Use your graphics editing program and resize the photo. You can try 800x600, but depending on the content of the photo, it still might be too big. In that case, resize it to 640x480.

This is the important thing. For casual viewing on a web board, anything larger isn't all that useful anyway - people with slow internet connections will curse how long it takes for the picture to open, and then everyone has to scroll back and forth to see the whole thing anyway.

With my camera, full size photos use up about 1.5mb of memory each, but if I reduce their size to 640 x 480 they shrink to around 150kb.

You can just open them in paint (or any photo editing deal) and re-size them (i.e. 50% or less). That generally works. I have had problems with ebay stuff in the past.

I don't know what the problem is, my camera is like a caveman slr from the early 2000s and it's resolution is too much for the fancy new software?!? They're probably expecting camera phone stuff.

No you don't have to repost for every picture. Since you started this thread asking about posting pictures, one of the Mods has moved it to the Questions & Suggestions forum.

Go to the Gallery section and start a new thread for your garage build. Take plenty of pictures as you go. When you post them, describe what you are doing or what is going on. I only try to put 2-3 pictures in a post, that way if somebody quotes you, they aren't quoting 10 pictures. Also if somebody askes questions about your build, answer them, there's not much more annoying than a member that posts pictures of their build and won't answer other members questions.

Correct size I don't know. PB usually fixed the size for me when I first started using it. I believe it does it automatically now.

The correct size for a forum is smaller than the pics above.

Another reason why I like photobucket. I have my uploads automatically resized.

This is actually one of the easier and better forums when it comes to picture hosting. Attaching pics to your posts is far superior to outside hosting. It's fewer steps and the photos won't disappear when you rename a folder or something. There are countless old threads where the pics are missing because someone moved or deleted them in their photobucket account.

I would recommend around 600 to 800 pixels on the longest side as a starting point. You can resize them if you think they're too small.

Here's a quick and easy photo resizer. It's drag and drop and will quickly resize more than one photo at once. It's also easy to adjust the final size.

Once you upload them to PB, click on the IMG tag, copy and paste it into the reply box.
