This is for Snap On ratchet owners/users. If you were limited to only one Snap On ratchet, which would you choose?

I caught the tail end of two guys debating this a couple days ago at the parts store and thought I would toss it out here. Please, no comments about buy other brand _____, trucks are a rip off or other comments that do nothing to advance Western civilization.

Thanks

Coach

FHLF80. Long for lots of leverage, flex head gets it into tough spots, strong and fine teeth. Its an excellent ratchet.

I don't think a day goes by that I don't have my 1/4" drive flex head ratchet in my hand. If I could only have one, that would be it.

I have well over a dozen SO ratchets and 3 of them are 1/4" drive flex heads.

I just within the past few years jumped on the flex head bandwagon thanks GJ.....

The olde flex head bent handle fbf936 is still my favorite I got the dual 80 version about a year ago and have the Mac version also in my work box at home I have a old beat up matco that got me started. The main reason I like the bent handle flex head ratchets are because I can use them like a speed wrench without changing tool they are also handy for getting around obstructions.

T72 or TF72. I have others I like too, but those are the ones that the SO 1/4" are so much better than anybody elses that they would be my first pick. A few years ago it would have been my 1/4" midgets, particularly my 1942 one. But, the T72 has beat them out, by a small amount of usability. The old midget is still my favorite, but not the best.

my "go to" ratchet is 3/8" dr long flex head comfort grip

the comfort grip wasnt my 1st choice, but it's nice in the winter when every tool i grab is cold....

no idea what the PN on it is...

i'm at one extreme or the other, either long handle, or stubby, i rarely use a std length ratchet

Without a doubt it would be my TSLF936 or FSLF936. No question.

This for me as well. They're one of those tools that you never knew you couldn't be without, until you start using one. If only they offered them in Dual 80 configuration, they'd be perfect.

If the apocalypse was upon me and I actually was "limited to only one Snap On ratchet, which would (I) choose", it would have to be one of those ~4 foot dealer-only Snap-On FL80 display ratchets, just because those things regularly fetch upwards of $300 on ebay (sometimes a lot more) and with that I could get the bare minimum two Snap On ratchets I need to survive: FHL80 & THNF72 (and maybe even a third ratchet if I buy used). lol

edit: sorry, but I did give it some thought and i just couldn't do the whole Sophie's Choice thing and settle on only one. I just couldn't.

You didn't specify which drive size, but these are my go to ratchets.

TM739, F723 and S713A.

F830 and TM830.....3/8 & 1/4 inch drives. No real reason other than they haven't failed me in 20 years of usage.

#1: Snap On FHNF100 AKA EXCALIBUR!

FHNF100.jpg

WHY?

- 100 Teeth make for very little slop and virtually no wasted motion. As fine as the teeth are, I have yet to blow one of these out. Full disclosure, I generally don't reef on it super hard - that's what the impact or breaker bar is for.

- At ~12.5" OAL, extra leverage is rarely needed from it in 3/8" drive applications.

- The swivel head, when aligned with the fastener axis, makes for very quick work when spinning on/off a loose fastener. Also, the swivel head makes the handle easy to clear obstructions - much like a flex head

I reach for it every time I reach for a 3/8" socket. I have ~ eight 3/8" drive SO ratchets, and this one is always first in line.

#2: Snap On FBF80

FBF80.jpg

WHY?

- SO Dual 80s need no further validation from me.

- The handle on this one sets it apart. When the handle is bend 90 degrees WRT the head, the user can use the bend in the handle itself to spin on/off loose fasteners really fast with a little practice.

- At ~12" OAL, she's got plenty of factory installed leverage for me.

I used the FBF80 for a few years before I got my hands on an FHNF100, so we got very used to each other. I still use it plenty, just not as much as the FHNF100.

You really can't go wrong with either one.

I'm a quick release flex head dual 80 kind of guy. It's long, strong, smooth, well balanced, made in USA and overall a solid ratchet.

IMHO the dual 80 ratchets really shine in long flex head versions. Thats where the strong head and fine tooth matter most.

It would have to be a toss up between my locking soft grip flex head or round head.

I have the grandparent to this wrench; an old F732 that I bought 35-40 years ago.. Old ****** is still used daily. I bought that ratchet specifically for spark plug removal. Place a spark plug socket on the ratchet; the handle can be lined up with the bottom of the socket/ resulting in little or no side load on the socket. The bent handle allows your hand to pull without twisting your wrist. Due to the reduced side load on the sockets, and the comfort, and the leverage that can be exerted: it is My favorite, and gets used for everything. and yep, they work good to spin loose fasteners off at 90 degrees.

Aye God this man describes the dilema precisely - "Sophie's Choice" to be sure.

You couldn't survive on one ratchet you have to have 1/2,3/8,1/4 and 1/2 and 3/8 breaker bars all a must if you are a pro or trying to survive apocalypse hell you could have all you want but if I had to pick 1 ratchet I'd say fhlf80a probably and for each size shlf80a for 1/2 and tll72 for 1/4. I like my Carlyl 3/8 long flex just as much as it's just as smooth and quite but head is smaller by quite a bit now it's the older model without soft grip the new ones are not as nice imo.
