Why is the GearWrench 1/4 drive flex socket set so expensive?

Just ordered the sae 1/4” drive Astro Pneumatic flex socket set. Found it on eBay from JBTools. $22.75. Looking forward to trying Astro Pneumatic. Glad Chris posts on here and that you guys started this thread. Wish more manufacturers’ reps like Chris, Jorie from HJE, and Tekton Dave posted on here about their products.

May I make a suggestion? Spend the money on what works. Spend the money on flex sockets that will lean over to almost a full 90 degrees and keep turning without binding up. That's what a flex socket is supposed to do in the first place. If you you're ever in a situation where you desperately need the tool to get you out of a bind (no pun intended) no amount of money will matter at that moment in time anyway. Snap-on.

Maybe if I was flat rate that'd be plausible. But I'm just a hack. I'll save snap-on for the stuff I use constantly.

Don't assume you know what others need. I will never be stupid enough to buy snap on. For me, they're complete waste of money.

The prices in the original post of this thread don't seem too far out of line to me. I remember when I bought my SAE and Metric quarter drive flex sockets at Sears and paid full retail price for both sets..... they were about $65 per set if I remember correctly. But then again, this was about 20 years ago and they were made in USA.

I must clarify. What I said is that it's a stupid move of me if I buy so. Others are totally justified to buy whatever they want to. The only thing I don't need is to be lectured on how I should use my money by others.

In reality, only my huge set of 1/2 inch tools is from Tekton. Almost all my other tools are from GearWrench. I think GW is a more shrewd vendor. It offers tools similar in quality to Tekton, Capri, AP an others. But GW sells tools from more channels and has more promotions. So in the end, I got best bang of buck from GW. For example, for the 1/4 and 3/8 set,. GW has a promotional item 80550F, which gives you both 1/4 and 3/8 set. Some people get that for only $110. I was late to the part and paid $145. Depending how one looks at it, you can argue Tekton gives similar value. That's fair.

My 1/4 drive GearWrench flex socket set is here! It complements the 3/8 set really well. Again, the sockets are perfect individually. I added a Stanley utility knife as a reference for size. They're tiny. Definitely won't spend more than $40 for them anyway. Thanks again to 3footpipe for the tip!

For each fastener, I attach first with regular socket. Then impact swivel. Then chrome swicelt. This is my 4th wave of offense. I am pretty sure they are good for life, practically speaking.

Holy **** man! 4 sets of sockets to take off a bolt? Not to be mean but why not socket or swivel socket? Like one or the other not the whole procedure

Tekton has an interesting design. The two pins are really close so it saves space. What are the pros and cons of the design? Why don't others use the design?

The main benefit is closer the two pins are the smoother the joint rotates and at more angle without bind and notching .
Downside with 4 pin all in alignment is strength due to amount of holes around that one point and stesses on them .
Other issue is keeping joint tight .
The life warranty on that design might be useful to have but I they should be really smooth use .
