Why is TV better in the garage?

Has anybody else noticed this or is it just me? I recently hooked up my old 27" tube TV in the garage and have watched Scarface, Resivior Dogs, and Sucker Punch, all seen on much better setups.......OMG, why is it so much better now? The screen ***** and the sound is adequate, but it's 50x better than watching it in the house! Is it just me, or is the garage a much better place to watch man-flicks?!?!?

Good start. I like it because I just can't sit and watch TV I need to do something so when its out in the garage I can work on stuff and watch some TV . most of that type of TV watching is car related or football

Because now you have TV in your room. Unlike when you were a kid...!

LOL, true. But I used to have a master retreat in a previous house, and it wasnt as good as this! It's not the picture or sound, it's like story is better!! I can't explain it,it's just.....more gooder.

I retreat to the shop to escape the TV and other distractions. A bit of quiet music on the radio and I allow my mind to focus on shop things. I can make enough mistakes if not distracted.

A lot of times I'll go to the garage just to watch TV and get out of the house. Quite a few times the wife will come down to the garage, grab a beer, and set and watch TV with me. In the summer, we are hardly ever in the house, but will be in the garage watching the tube. I'm not the only one either. The guy that is down the road about a 1/2 mile from me, I can go by in the evening and he'll be setting out watching the tube. 2 older guys that live together the next road over....you go past anytime in the summer and they are both setting out in their garage, drinks in hand either watching traffic go past or watching TV.

Better in the garage? If I find a TV in my garage, it will be used for target practice. My garage is for working. My house is for napping, and TV is good only for napping.

It's better because you'll never have to watch some broad pick out a wedding dress! (I'm sure my wife doesn't care how things are made but how is watching someone choose a wedding dress entertaining?):headscrat

I have 3 small children and the inlaws living with me, so the only thing on house TV is either Yo Gabba Gabba or novelas (mexican soap operas), 2/3 of my garage is for working, 1/3 is my personal relax space.

You've never slept in your garage? Rookie.

You feel my pain. I don't have the cable hooked up, but there's nothing good on TV these days anyway. The DVD player is fine for me.

No sarcasm there, clearly I'm on the wrong garage forum, my garage is an unfinished uninsulated space where I park and work on vehicles.

I live by myself though, so I don't have to compromise the garage turning it into an area of refuge to escape the wife and kids.

There's not enough content on TV these days to hold my full attention, with bad programming and incessant commercial interruptions. I can never "just" watch TV anymore; I'm generally doing something else while the TV is on.

I have a 32" flatscreen on the wall above my workbench in the garage. I never go out and just watch TV in the garage, but if I'm doing something at the bench I usually have the TV on. If I'm working on a car or something interesting, then just music.

Even most movies don't hold my attention anymore, but for those that do I have a big screen TV with 7.1 sound in the rec room for that.

The garage is cold and dirty with no place to sit, why would I want to watch tv out there?

Hmm

My garage is neither cold nor dirty. While maybe during a dirty project.

I like having a hockey game on while I'm working. I mainly listen unless something grabs my attention.

The kids and their friends have taken over the living room and are watching Basketball. Not really my game

I'm thinking about going to the garage..... I've got cigars and scotch out there and HNIC is on

In my old place the Garage was attached but you had to go outside and open the big door to get in. That let all the heat or cool out and everybody in the neighborhood could see everything I was doing. It was small and always had two projects going on so space was really limited. I had to sit in one of the projects to watch any tv, so hanging out was so so. My new place has a door from the family room, a door that goes out to the back yard, and a rollup door that I can have at any height. I have two tv's,vcr's,dvd's out there,a stereo, a mini fridge, and a microwave. Its all cast off stuff from the house, but it works and it would have gone to waste or worse. So when I'm working on something I'm finally set.

I Spent the afternoon working in my shop. Saw about 6 episodes of "Counting Cars". Took this pic a couple a weeks ago when "Spike" was the channel of choice.

Why is TV better in the garage.....because the fridge is next to the couch/recliner and I don't have to get up to get my next beer as I sit across from the TV. :D I need a bathroom in the garage and then they will never realize I'm in the mancave.

I bought a series of VHS tapes on aircraft from WWII probably 15 years ago. Never got around to watching it (haven't had a VCR hooked up in the house for a long time). Finally got to them- in the shop. Can't wait til football season....won't have to be home to catch the MI games. Don't drink any form of booze at the shop because it's not at my home, and I no longer do the drinking and driving thing. Damn I was lucky through all those youthful years of stupidity. As far as a urinal? Yup, it's located "anywhere outside the shop." :)

I can't wait to get the TV in there. Yes, it is a place to work, but it is also a place to unwind, visit with a few buddies and have some fun!

Thats a great work bench top and your power strip is cool!

Thanks Icky. It was pretty simple actually. I got the 10' long floor cabinet with counter top when our church remodeled the office. They were going to pay someone to haul it off. I gave them $20 and hauled it for them. The power strip, came from Lowe's.

A lot of times when I'm watching tv in the house, I get a little bored. Unless I'm really into a show, my mind starts to wonder, and I get figity. When I'm in the garage, I don't have to worry about it, because I can tinker with any of my ongoing projects.

Most of the time when I'm actually concentrating on a project, I turn it off, or completely ignore it.

I'm in the planning stage of a 24x36 garage.. It will be a working garage, but a used flat screen (32-42" range) will be in the plans.. Going to buy used due to dust etc. possibly ruining it. I will also be hooking up a fairly loud stereo for garage parties.
I think it will be a good edition for having the boys over to watch the race
