Why no dual 80 flex?

So I have a long handle 1/2 locking flex head dual 80, I think it's 18" overall and I was wondering why they don't make one in 3/8? I cannot even find a long handle flex on their website let alone a locking one, what gives?

The gearwrench 81267 is what I'm looking for in dual 80 did they ever make one?

I like the locking feature because when you can only get one hand up into a tight spot you don't have to worry about the flex "overflexing" to where you have to readjust it to get on the bolt.

They do make a standard 3/8 dual 80 fhlf80
These are about 12-1/2 inches long in 3/8
For a 18 long version you will have to make from breaker bar handle

There is a locking flex soft grip, FHX80A, but it doesn't give a length.

I believe the FHX80A is 12".

if you want an ~18" pro-grade 3/8" flex ratchet, MAC is the only one to make one yet, but none in a locking flex AFAIK.

I read that thread and though he was looking for something smaller, the one I'm looking for should be about 16 inches

He wanted "a ratchet that's the size of the FHLL80 in a flex head comfort grip", and the FHLL80 is 17-1/2"

https://store.snapon.com/Dual-80-17...ra-Long-Handle-3-8-drive-17-1-2--P872191.aspx

There's no 16" Snap On 3/8" locking flex that I know of either.

edit: I could be wrong though. Don't take my word as the last word. Lots of people know better than I do, and the Snap On site is littered with tools that are listed as 'non-catalog items' or not in the categories they should be, and the only real way to find them is already know the model number you are looking for and search for it.

Unless I'm mistaken the FX80A is ~11 or 12" similar to the FHX80A.

Unfortunately Snap On's site doesn't say. It is listed as 11" on a couple ebay listings though.

When I called SO last summer about a TLLF72 the guy told me the 18" flex 3/8 (FLLF80?) was supposed to be out by 4th quarter of 2016. And here we are nothing yet. We need to start bugging Snap-on about getting one out:

The mac ones are terrible, can't keep them together, heads are stripped once a month.

I'm sure snap on is bringing one out, they just did a long flex 1/4" and then a 18" breaker bar 3/8. I'm willing to bet the next thing they bring out is a 18" flex head 3/8"

I've heard good things about it from people who actually own one. Yours is the first I've seen say otherwise about the MAC XR1890FPA or XR18FPA

That Mac is awesome. I have one and love it.

Longest "good" flex 3/8 is the newer Macs I beleive. I have one, and it's awesome!

Mac makes one and despite what many believe, it's made in America.

I have the Mac 18" 3/8 flex and it is a really nice ratchet. All of my other ratchets are dual 80s. I may try another Mac. It's a really nice product.

There's 2 of them in my shop, at least once a month they are broken, the older one has been fixed probably 6 times now, the last time it broke off a bolt in the plate and we had to use a torch to free the locktite out of it to get it rebuilt.

The head and gears are to small for the long of a handle on the axis stuff, even Mac's 1/2 bar is a joke compared to the Snap-on one.

I like mac/proto/Dewalt stuff, have a bunch of their bits, air tools and recently traded my Snap-on 1/2" impact towards a mac one because it's way better.

I won't be getting any axis ratchets from mac, they go through parts so fast. My dual 80 bent handle flex head is just starting to lose a tooth and I use it daily for everything, unless I need my 1/2" breaker dual 80.

I plan on getting or building a 18" flex head 3/8" dual 80 in the near future. If I have to use a breaker bar I will.

I own both, use the XR1890FPA frequently, when it is not broken. Nice smooth ratchet to use, love the length. Durability unfortunately has been poor compared to Dual 80s from my personal experience. Headflop, tiny torx screws loosen up and break off, seal never seems to stay put, stripped head twice... :dunno:

Well, now I've heard different. Those posts I quoted above were just what I found in less than 5 minutes looking that I remembered from recent threads, but I've seen a lot more like them saying nothing but good things about those long MAC 3/8" flex ratchets.

Who knows?
FWIW,

Here's a quick mention of the 18" Mac Axis ratchet in Eric O.'s/South Main Auto's latest repair video posted just 15 hours ago. He seems to like it a good bit. He's located in N.Y. so he's dealing with a fair bit of rust.

Skip to the 20:40 mark for the lead into the ratchet:
