Dangerous as in cracking while in use, under load.
And you have...what?... in terms of any level of non-hearsay/opinion-based information that would suggest that is common/normal??

Every discussion involving line wrenches begins and ends with SnapOn.
As far as being the best? Sure.

Are they without legit competition? No. Beyond vintage SK, the TTC testing would certainly say there are alternatives that work very well.

If they are inarguably the best…how is there competition?

I’ve watched the test. It does nothing to change my mind.

What folks say on this very site and what I have seen for myself. Still don’t know if that counts as “proof” per se.

Where I grew up, the fire nut wrenches were called ‘line wrenches’ but flare nut is the proper term.

But I agree, probably a very low volume thing and/or they haven’t found a vendor for the Icon brand yet.

That's a single post about someone reading about someone else having a problem. Still ***zero*** proof especially of any kind of common failures with Taiwan torque adapters.

The torque test channel tested line wrenches and MAC, Proto and Snap On were all pretty similar. I don’t think there are secrets in hand tool production.
The TTC video revealed that the chinese-made Craftsman flare nut wrenches from Lowes were like 90-95% as good as the Snap-On ones, for $25 a set. I went out and bought two sets of each SAE and metric to replace the cheapo bent and stretched HF ones I'd had in my box and my truck for years, and they have been *awesome.*

They have never spread or slipped on me, I've absolutely cranked! on the 13mm and the 5/8" more than once. I was going to buy the Snap-On ones due to this board's years of repeated insistence that the only true flare nut wrench was a Snap-On, and I'm really glad TTC came out with that video and saved me hundreds of dollars. I buy Snap-On tools sometimes still, but the Craftsman flare nut wrenches are like a can't-miss choice for my wallet.

I understand that conversations flow and evolve but but I don't think every tool conversation should flow towards Snapon. The make some great tools but some not so great. I can smell the roses but don't have drink the Kool aid

If there ever was a tool conversation that should flow towards Snap-on, it's their line wrenches.

I got by with USA made Craftsman line wrenches for more than a decade, until I didn't. One slip turned a quick brake job on a weekend into missed work while I got the stuff to make up a new brake line that made the cost of the snap-on set seem cheap as chips comparatively. I won't even think about using any other now.

Ebay for Proto. Its where I got My Proto Flare nut wrenches many years ago. Although Proto seems to be stupid high priced on Ebay now. I would bet Icon does eventually come out with them.

Agree Wheeler. Been there done that, had a CM made oversea flare nut as part of a 29.99 set from Lowes, tried to use it on a brake line, 12mm not even close. Chase the SO truck down and grab the 12mm, job completed. Then I used the cheap CM 18mm on a power steering line and it worked. Added more SO flare nut wrenches as needed.

I don't think it's any secret that Snap-on is for when you want the assurance of that extra 5-10% and are okay with spending the money for it even at 3-10x the cost to get it.

That's kind of their entire business model.

It's not always worth it to me but the flare nut wrenches are at least one place that it is, IMHO. I got mine in "new" sets on eBay though, didn't pay full retail.
