Strarted a-thread and it went nowhere. not to complain, just curious about it...
Seems like a thread that would have been interesting and covered a lot of different tools.(ratchets, sockets, pliers, adjustable wrenches 🔧 etc, all in one.

There’s already tons of toolbox tours on YouTube if you’re into that sort of thing. There’s also a massive show your toolbox thread on this forum that’s been around for years. I’d say that about covers it for most of us here.

My toolboxes are a big mess and most of the tools are spread between my carts and 2 service trucks. I barely use the boxes when working in the shop any more, i just roll over one of my carts and or park the service truck next to whatever im doing and work off the truck.

Not to hurt anyones feelings, but theres a phase everyone goes thru when they first get a nice box and you sort it, polish it and take pictures. But after 10 years of working out of said box or whatever, you just dont care anymore. Every mechanic youll ever work with or meet will have a similar version of what youve got anyway, so its nothing new or exciting to them either.

You know who I WOULD like to see a tool box tour (or even better a shop tour) Fedwrench....

I have done shop tours in the past on LI but any of the really interesting shops want to know who is visiting and that can be a problem on a public forum. The guy who owns a M23 with racing history is picky but often displays his cars at Goodwood.

Simply owning stuff just isn't that interesting.

Doing stuff is pretty universally interesting to people, just about every car forum has a "what did you do to your ____ today?" thread as one of the most popular. Eric o can make as many brake job videos as he wants and they will still be way more interesting than just about any tool box tour.

I don't mind them. It's always interesting to see how guys organize their tools, what tools they use often, and so on.

Yes, a plain jane automotive repair box tour may not interest some here, but I personally find it interesting. I especially enjoy machinist tool setups, heavy equipment repair guys, service trucks, welding and fab guys, industrial maintenance, that kind of thing.

I have a few threads on my tools.

This is a tool enthusiast forum, after all.

I think the "Let's See Your Toolbox" is the best thread on GJ. I like it when members post shots of every drawer along with a picture of their box. I find YouTube toolbox tours to be pretty boring and long winded. I don't need a detailed description of every socket a guy owns. With a picture, I can loo it for as long as I want.

I want to see all professional brands in the box. Better yet, all the tools one professional brand. Nobody has a box like that, so that's why I have no interest in toolbox tours.

Only interest I have in a tool box tour is for how you setup or organize your box. That way I can steal ideas.
A few pictures work well, doesn’t take much

I for one go ape **** over the youtube tool box tours but...(always a but); I like the ones without any talking or noise in the background, just plain opening and closing each drawer is all I need to get my fix as they say.:thumbup::thumbup:

On the other hand...As soon as they talking blah, blah, blah it just kills it for me big time.

Well, there were these two guys who posted in the "Let's See Your Toolbox" thread that were pretty close. Almost everything was from a SO truck and very organized. Sadly their pictures are gone but, they created quite a buzz. it was caspian65 at post #186 and gtamustang at post#252.

BTW, do you have pictures of your box and drawers in the "Let's See Your Toolbox" thread?

Well, me personally, I only go looking at other peoples tool boxes if I'm looking for better organization ideas or mods for a specific box/cart. I don't really care to see the contents of some strangers toolbox. Got a bunch of Snap-On? Cool.. but it all still just looks like a wrench, socket, ratchet, screwdriver etc to me, don't spend much time drooling over the name stamped on the side of them myself. Dont get me wrong, I like and absolutely prefer quality tools. Just don't care who made them, where they were bought, or if it much care to look at the tools in a box that is not mine.

How about you give me tours of the work that you do with those tools. Then you've got my attention. Do some heavy remodeling on your house? Restoring an old rod? Build a nice patio/deck? Yea, show me that stuff.

How do you decide what's professional? Wife's cousin is a car mechanic, his base tools are craftsman, his use makes them professional. I posted my small bicycle repair setup in the toolbox thread. You've probably not heard of half the tool brands shown there but they're all brands that you would find in any professional shop and some tools not every professional bike shop has.

Tours of toolboxes are interest, but that is mainly the place for video and you can find a ton of them on Youtube.

There have been some useful threads on here about storing wrenches or modifying HF rolling carts. I'm not overly interested in seeing a massive box full of Snap On tools though, i like seeing all the professional mechanics and what they use as less expensive options.

It doesn't work that way. Tools used by a professional doesn't make them professional tools. Tools are either born professional or they're not.

Post up a tool brand and part number. I'll tell you if it's professional or not.

As we say up north it seems like your ******* into the wind.

If you are ever in the NY LI area I would be happy to give you a toolbox tour and take you to a few interesting shops.

I actually believe I'm an excellent judge of tool quality. I've used a lot of different tools and I can tell you what's worthwhile and what's not.

Again, post pictures of your box and all the drawer shots of your tools in the "Let's see your toolbox" thread if not already there. That way we can see what the Judge uses.

While I agree that there are some show us your toolbox threads, most people replied with pictures of their toolbox 🧰 and not the contents, mine was what’s inside your toolbox.
True, I’m sure some folks included the inside shots, but not all. Like many others, I was interested in seeing how others set up and organized their tools.

MERK, even after all of these years, you never cease to amaze me :wtf:

I think you'd be happiest looking catalog pictures of master sets then

I disagree with you that professional tools are born and not made professional through use. To me professional tools aren't judged solely my the name that is stamped into them but, how they stand the test of time with consistent daily hard use over years of service.

The second aspect of professional tools you omit is the skill of the person using the tool. A novice wielding a snap on wrench will not achieve the same results as a seasoned tech using an OEM brand wrench. Tools in themselves do not magically make one professional, it's the skill of the person using them that matters. I can think of no better example than that superautobacs guy that illustrates really complex use of japanese made tools being used on european cars.
I know several techs that have all one brand of tools in a matching box but, i'm not one of them because, i don't think one brand makes the best of everything but, that's just me.
You are truly blessed though to have the skill of instantly knowing if a tool is professional simply by looking at the brand and part number though. I have to put a tool through its paces for awhile before i can do that. Of course Proto has the word professional stamped into some of their tools so, that's makes it easier.
