why no reverse on aviation drills?

Does anyone know why most aviation drills have no reverse?it seems odd to me.when drilling I often use reverse so why not?

Not really needed, helps to simplify design thus weight and streamline overall drill. Most drill presses don't have reverse either.

Unless you have a ccw bit there is no point. Drill bits are typically designed to extract material by running in a forward, cw direction.

Damn,I didn't know that.it hasn't annoyed me yet so I'm obviously not drilling enough.about 2 hours a day.I will try and be annoyed next time I use reverse.I thought stuck bits were annoying.I'm a ******* and been getting annoyed at the wrong thing.thank you. /s

Drilling many, many holes of the same size in aluminum. Light weight, good speed, and a nice trigger reign supreme. No need for reverse.

Maybe you could put a quick coupler on the tool's exhaust port. That way when you need reverse you just switch the compressed air over to the exhaust side.

You did ask... When one is 7 hours into a 10-hour day drilling #30 holes in 40 thou sheet, they're apt to appreciate not having that reverse lever digging into their index finger. It's also not much fun to try to start a hole on a punch ***** when the #@^*ing thing is in reverse.

As far as getting the flutes stuck, use less feed force when you feel the feed go "soft" and you won't have that problem. Similarly, buy some drill stops or use your free hand to gauge the depth so you don't drill a hole though something important on the other side.

Do you manage to get the bit stuck hard enough that you can't just rotate the chuck widdershins by hand until free of the obstruction?
