My hanging garage heater has a 5" exhaust outlet. In theory (disregarding code for a moment) it seems possible to surround my 5" exhaust pipe with a 7" pipe and draw in combustion air between the 2 pipes. I have seen kits for this but they seem very expensive. So here is my question.
Why should I spend $300 on a "combustion air inlet vent adapter box" or a "concentric vent adapter box" when I can just mount a 5" elbow inside of a 7" Tee and plug up the gap between them on one of the openings? It seems to me it would be easy to assemble and sturdy with just 6 one-and-a-quarter inch stainless steel stove bolts and a bunch of washers.
