Little known / discussed fact as a former home inspector....where there are webs there is fresh air...i.e. air infiltration.

if you take a walk downstairs to a basement you will typically see spiders/webs near windows etc...why .....??? air......

In our garages you will also see many spiders./ webs ..why because they are no dummies they like fresh air...hence that's where your air leaks are....

Perhaps spiders like fresh air, but that does not explain the presesnce of webs in every corner, under every cabinet and bench, under the sink, etc. etc. Spiders do not live on air alone, they need a food source with a bit more substance and they will go where they believe they can find it. And exactly how does the fact they make a mess of your garage make them your friend?

I'll take a small air leak before a Black Widow bite any day. Spiders are NOT my friends. Especially when they set up camp under one of my cars.

I cleaned my shop vac today, and upon turning it upside down to blow it out, I discovered over 20 of those little "puff ball" looking egg sacks associated with some variety of spider (sorry, I hate them all and have never researched which variety it might be) in the cavities where the wheels are mounted. With each of those "puff balls" having the potential of hatching "X" amount of little "creepies", I figure that my garage life will be much better, at least till I find the next "hidey hole", LOL! ;)

I rate spiders right up there with "snakes." I don't even like dead ones! :tantrum2:

I remember working on an old '55 Chevy I got a long time ago. We were trying to knock out a dent in the side of the rear fender. I stuck my hand up under the fender to feel the inside of the dent and felt that sticky feeling of a web. I immediately jerked my hand out of there and got a flash light to look up in there. Guess what ? A giant web above the rear tire in the wheelwell and located centrally in it a was one mother of a giant Black Widow spider! :scared:

I still get chills everytime I think about that.

Like I said...I don't like spiders! :shoot5:

Let them go find somewhere else to live and leave my home/garage/shop alone!!!!!!!

I really dislike spiders. I used to live in the outskirts of Tucson, AZ and every now and then if you woke up late to go to the bathroom there would be a 6" diameter tarantula staring at you on the wall.

I thought that was the worst until a friend showed me a "Bird Eating Spider." They regularly get to be 11" in diameter and really do eat birds. Can anyone say Alien Facehuggers? :willy_nil :scared:

I didn't know AR had spiders like that. I just crossed it off my "places I might want to live" list.

I live in a circa 1880's farm house, so I know there are spiders, plus we have those long legged centipedes. Harmless, but they still take the manlyness outa ya.

The Bird Eating spiders are actually from Australia. I have never seen one in person but supposedly people do have them as pets. My friend just showed me some pictures of one that was the size of a friggin dinner plate. You could put a leash on the thing and walk it.

I thought that tarantulas are fairly harmless unless agitated. Like being stepped on, or a hand reaching into thier cubbyhole!

The other day I needed to grind down a small screw to shorten it. put on my work gloves and do the task, take off the glove and out falls this NASTY looking spider who looked none too happy at me - he only stayed mad for a few seconds though... :shocking:

Spent the next few minutes carefully examining my hand for bites, told the wife to keep an eye on me in case I collapse.... no fun at all. Now I have a sealed plastic tub that I keep all my gloves in.

Great idea! I'm going to do the same thing tomorrow with all the gloves that I use in the garage. Thanks!

I regret even reading this thread. Is that a pun?

I had a bad experience with a Brown Recluse while on a trip to Huston. :scared: :willy_nil Now spiders make me run away screaming
