Long time lurker, but decided i had to post after hearing that from my bride.

I got her buy-in for a small remodel and reorganization so that my truck could park inside.

I started with total chaos, threw away a dumpster full, and started with a clean slate on 3/22/12.

And now, countless hours and about $1K in parts later, my truck will soon fit in the garage and everything has its place.

Just some lights, touch-up and cleanup and i'm done.....for now. Wait, I still gotta rebuild the workbench! With a steel top, etc!

$1000 ain't bad......My basement remodel is already $2700 and that's just framing and insulation........
You could tell her it's $1000 on the garage or spend it on lap dances

Tell her it's just to impress the guys on the GJ forum; she'll understand that. You've got to remember that women don't spend all that time and money on cosmetics, clothes, SHOES, purses, manicures, hair salons, etc., etc., etc. to impress men, they do it to impress other women! You've only spent around $1k? In the economics of the fairer ***, that is maybe 4 or 5 pairs of good shoes! If that ploy doesn't calm her down, remind her that your garage will never go out of fashion; it's a LIFETIME investment.

This is why I believe at least some monies shouldn't be co-mingled. If you have to discuss every marital purchase, it's just bound to start some nasty fights. As long as the core things are being paid for, and you have some agreed upon savings plan, the rest doesn't need to be micro managed. Good luck, looks good.

Every time you work on a project yourself, remind her how much you saved by doing it yourself and not paying someone else. That alone should be enough compensation to fix up your garage/workarea.
