Wifi door operators

I have the lift master 3900 series openers (3) on my 12x14 doors. Reading tells me that there are lots of complaints about the poor remote control both the loose clip on the visor type and the vehicles built in types.
I'd like to hear from anyone that has switched to the wifi type that can be controlled by your phone. My router is in the shop so that shouldn't be a problem. My other "thing" is I don't want one of those siri or dot things anywhere on my property.
I've seen them from $20 on up, and I simply don't understand their terminology, particularly wtf is a "hub". I don't really care about alerts or being able to open from around the world, just a damn opener that works from immediately outside the building.

I have a liftmaster with myQ. As long has it can pick up wifi signal you can control through your phone. No "hub" needed with the newer series of openers.

Thanks, the way I understand it is that one is required for each opener but is operated by the same app that needs to be downloaded to your phone. Sound about right?
My openers are all about 8 years old, but do have the "learn" button.

I was in the gate business for a while. A couple things I came away with are...
The button always works. (Old school remote, batteries good)
The button is always there... right there on the visor, no fumbling, swiping, etc.

Now, that said, the ability to monitor from away, let someone in, etc. is quite nice. I’m not those people, so it’s not important to me, but for some suburban folks, it would be great.

He liftmaster myQ is cool, but proprietary. Only compatible with the MyQ operators, myQ accessories, etc.
I’d recommend visiting a controls/ home automation specialist and look into a stand-alone app.

I got a Genie opener that came with a wifi controller, I didn't add wifi to my garage until a couple of years after and I could not get the Genie system to work.

I bought the MyQ. it works most of the time. I added a mesh system tog et internet to the garage and I think it gets spotty reception sometimes. so I'll get an alert that the door is open and it's not. even more fun I'll get an alert and try to close it and it tells me I need to physically operate the door in order to reset. It also uses a wireless signal to operate the door (so your learn function is probably fine) I'd rather it just wire into the door button, seems like a no brainer to me but that's not how the system works for whatever reason.

I added a blink camera so I can see if the door is open when I get notifications.

The my Q is flawed but I don't know if any of the other systems are any better.

One of the things people over look is what is going on in the community around them. Military bases, airports, ham stations, anything using radio frequency. Door openers are bottom on the frequency chain and one of the reasons frequency change is done for remotes. Now add in some LED lights.

Many causes that are ignored that shouldn't.

My 5 year old model required a hub for it to work so I never bothered. Put a 3rd stall addition on this summer and got the newest model liftmaster with wifi built in. I can now use that as the hub for my old opener that did not have the wifi built in. I think its pretty great. And yes both my openers are controlled through myQ app.

I bought the hub 5 years ago when I bought the opener, I like getting alerts when the door is opened and closed and I like being able to open it remotely.

I have a myQ. It works off of the WiFi network in the house. I hardly ever use my phone to open and close. But, it is nice to get notifications when it opens and closes. I can also open the app and see how long the door has been opened or closed. The thing I like most about it, is that I can set how long the door will stay open. I have it set to close on its own in 2 minutes. We have a lot of bicycle bandits in central Phoenix and it’s nice to know I don’t have to worry about accidentally leaving the door open.

Maybe you already have so, if so, ignore the rest of this. I'd be looking more at this type of interference and trying to find ways to fix what you have. I'd much rather hit the button on the thing on my visor than **** around w/ a phone app.

I got a MyQ from Amazon for about $18. It is paired with an opener at least 15 years old (maybe older) and it works perfectly. When I'm on one of my bikes, a couple of swipes on the phone and it's open.

Haven't had any problems but it has only been installed about 6 weeks.
