Hey everyone,

We've just completed our detached garage and want to come up with a good security package and hope some of you have some recommendations. We've got a Liftmaster door opener we plan to add a MyQ receiver to and will have wifi signal in the garage, which is about 50 feet behind our house in a metro area. We know of products that do everything we want separately, but wanted to see if anyone knew of some products that either do it all or work well together.

Here's what we want:

1. Unmonitored security system with a keypad, door sensors and motion sensors that will send us txt alerts and that we can arm and disarm from our phones.

2. Motion sensors that will wirelessly alert us with a chime inside the house when someone enters the garage.

Basically we want to be notified on our phones when away and immediately notified by sound when home if someone enters the garage.

Any suggestions?

All this can be done with a DSC 1832 professional alarm system, with wireless contacts and Envis-link 3 network adapter. You can also add monitoring at a later time for about $8.50 per month.

My system has a mix of 20 wireless and wired contacts, smoke detectors, heat detectors for the garage, motion sensors, keyfobs. I also have two cameras that alert when a sensor is triggered. I can view the cameras from my phone and turn/ on off the system from anywhere in the world. Spent about $850 in parts and a few weekends installation and programming. Right now I self monitor to get my wife used to the system, but will have it monitored by a UL listed company and take advantage of the home owners insurance discount.

No problem,

I bought all my parts online from a place called alarmsystemstore.com, but you can also find the parts at homesecuritystore.com. Both those sites have downloadable tutorials and youtube videos to get you through the basic programming.

I bought the following, but won't list the misc wiring (bought fire rated wiring for the heat detectors) and extra little hardware needed for my particular setup.

- DSCKit32-219CP01NT, This is a basic DSC power series 1832 box, with RFK5000ENG LCD Keypad. Keypad has built in wireless radio transmitter and full text english display. The kit also comes with a siren, one DSC motion detector, power supply and backup battery.

- (2) Optex MX40PI, Pet immune hardwired motion sensors. I bought these because they are supposed to be immune to dogs weighing up to 100 pounds.

-DSC WS4939, DSC four button wireless keyfob remotes

-DSC EV DW4975, DSC wireless vanishing door / window transmitters

- DSC EV DW4917, DSC recessed wireless door / window transmitters

- DSC WS4916, DSC wireless smoke detectors with built in heat detector

-System Sensor 5602, 135 degree rate of rise heat detectors

-Z-EVL-3 , Envislink 3 IP communicator security interface module (learn about this module at Eyez-on.com.

That's pretty much what I have installed so far. Right now I already have new Carbon monoxide detectors in the house, but plan on adding wireless units to the alarm system. I also plan on installing a wireless flood sensor to my water heater / water softener closet.

Like I said in an earlier post, I am self monitoring at the moment, but will have my alarm system monitored by the service offered by Eyez-on.com.

The Envislink 3 IP communicator is the key to this system, which allows you to use your phone/ laptop / home computer / tablet to self monitor the alarm sytem. Their basic service is free with the purchase of the EVL-3, but they do offer an upgraded service for $5 per month.

Almost forgot, I had to make a special bracket to use one of the wireless contacts for the garage door. Pretty easy with some aluminum flat bar.

I bought one of these. Lots of items to add on including signal boosters. Also has garage door opener.

Its wireless but not WiFi. Has its own wireless signal.

I would suggest something like the Veralite..I have it and have no problems with it. It works with Z-Wave so there are TONS of things you can add to it at anytime.

Well, as my wife said. Just do enough manly stuff to be sent to the doghouse. AKA your garage to live.

Right now I use two Foscams that I can monitor through Eyez-on interface or separately using third party software. I have one of these cameras connected outside and second inside.

For the perimeter of the house, I have 6 Q-see 1080P POE cameras, that I monitor using the Q-see app on my phones. This system is triggered by motion, which starts the recording. The camera is also triggered to record if the Alarm is activated, through the alarm inputs located on the back of the NVR unit.

Thanks for the info. About to order the DSC 1864. Going wired on everything. Install will be time consuming, but I think I'll be happy with the result.
