I have a full set of the Wiha Drive-Loc VI that I keep in my repair bag at all times. It's great for the work I do as a field engineer. A lot of the older guys use xcelite sets but I find the Wiha Drive Loc sets superior because you can adjust the blade length. Also there seems to be less wobble than the xcelite blades over time.

I picked up some sets at amazon.com and then filled in the missing blades from all-spec.com.

I have a fairly complete set of Drive-Loc VI I keep in my bag at all times. Great tools. I like them much better than using a magnetic bit holder, and they make it just about as compact for carrying a complete set of phillips, pozi, robertson, torx and hex. The adjustable length is great.

They look really superb, the only thing that I can't quite get over is that it looks like Wiha purposely discontinued the 1/4" hex bit and socket holder blades... they want to force people to buy the nutdriver and other additional blades instead of buying a bit holder and using bits.

That's what was told to me by a Wiha reseller, at least.

So basically, due to greed, it appears that they took away what could have been the best 1/4" bitholding driver on the market, as well as the best 1/4" socket driver on the market.

I may end up having to choose the Wera Vario, as at least Wera still offers those blades. Adjustable length is a wonderful feature, but not if I have a useless driver that I can't use with my security bits. I have to use spanners and a couple others from time to time at work, as well as 12pt. sockets, as most nutdrivers are 6 point.

I am on the fence about grabbing one to try out, but shortsighted profit-grabbing moves like that just really irk me.

That is the US importer of wiha wanting sell the nut drivers, you can get the hit holder in germany that will hold the nut drive bits as well.

Ok, that makes me feel a bit better. As long as there is still some way I can source it.

I've read bad things about the USA Wiha reseller, but I guess that just further confirms it. How low can you go, really?

I mean, talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Did they ever stop to consider that perhaps people would want to use the Drive-loc system with bits that aren't available in blade form? It obviously wasn't too hard for Wiha Germany to figure out.

edit: Micro-tools has both blades in stock, so I'm going to go ahead and order the full set from Amazon and the extra blades from Micro-tools. I'm going to have to do some serious thought before ever ordering anything from Wiha USA though. I don't support that type of business.

You can buy the 1/4" bit holder with a handle. Wiha 28489

What is the part number for the blade that can fit 1/4" sockets?

I have both the bit holder and the socket holder. There are a lot of tools Wiha USA doesn't bother importing. Shame they are stopping to import these.

Bit holder:
28145

Socket holder:
28146

Both are presently in stock on Micro-Tools.

I mentioned that in my post above.

Crawford tool shows the same parts for much cheaper, so I'm going to try there. I've ordered from Crawford in the past.
