So I purchased some Wiha Slimline insulated screwdrivers. While the tips are clearly quite nice, I have a few qualms with the manufacturing/design.
1 – The tip on the flat drivers do not run parallel to the anti-roll flat portions of the handle. It appears as though the blades are just randomly fixed to the handles without any consideration for their orientation. This creates two undesirable outcomes: First, in the case of the flat blade, the tip is hitting whatever it is resting on before the anti-roll handle and elevating the driver so that it wobbles and reduces the effectiveness of the anti-roll design. Second, it feels quite natural to place your thumb on the flat portion of the handle when starting a screw and it is irritating that the blade is randomly off axis.
2 – The handle feels nice, however, the black labeling on the top of the handle that indicates the size of the driver is rubbing off almost immediately. Also, the image that identifies what driver you are grabbing is completely random in it’s orientation to the actual blade position – Which again is completely random to the flat portion of the driver.
3 - There is a bar code that is printed directly on the handle. Not a big deal…Hopefully this will rub off with use.
I realize these complaints may sound very **** to some, but these drivers come highly recommended and I am just surprised that these easy to rectify manufacturing problems haven’t been addressed. I was really hoping to love these drivers. Klein, Milwaukee, Wera have managed to put out tools without these issues so it is clearly doable at around this price point.
