I got a selection of their punches from Epstein's, seems like pretty good stuff to me, though I haven't had a cause to really let loose on them yet.

If you watch the video on the site it shows them making Craftsman branded stuff.

Does anyone have their sockets or wrenches?

I have some of their chisels and am extremely impressed for what they are worth.

I picked up some Roll Pin and Pin Punches from Epsteins, then got some smaller ones and cold chisels straight from Wilde. Their customer service was great ordering straight from the site.

I also believe they make lock ring pliers for a lot of brands, only much cheaper through Wilde.

The sockets and wrenches appear to just be rebranded tools from other companies. Wilde doesn't make every single one of their tools in house.

In fact, Wilde used to get sockets from Stanley, and Stanley was improperly marking those tools as USA made when they really weren't.

http://www.ftc.gov/os/1999/06/stanleyworkscmp.htm

I just watched their factory video, no wrenches in the video.

These 10 inch slip joint pliers are highly recommended. I got two pairs of the NAPA branded units when they were on close out. If you notice, the handles are shaped like lineman pliers. Very comfortable.

I am glad that this thread has come up.

Weeks ago, I contacted Jori from Epstein's to talk to him about trying to generate some excitement for this brand. Have you guys read their history or their professed philosophy on their website? It's great stuff, and speaks to me as someone who loves quality tools, ethical local companies, and USA manufacturing.

Jori helped me understand some things, and put me in touch with a fellow from Wilde. I called him last week to chat, but we couldn't connect. We've exchanged a couple e-mails, and still need to connect on the phone.

Wilde does indeed supply tools for big names like Craftsman. And as we akll know, Craftsman is packing up and shipping out, so companies like Wilde could use our help.

I got some Wilde stuff within the last six months or so: prybars, gasket scrapers, headlight spring tool, punches and chisels, pliers. It's all excellent.

Would you guys be interested in putting heads together and coming up with a way to show support for these guys, much as we do for Epstein's on July 4th or as we just did for Westling Machine on New Year's? I'd love to get some momentum for a "Wilde Wednesday" or or some such thing.

There are some logistical concerns. My understanding is that prices on the Wilde website are higher than they are elsewhere, because Wilde does not want to sell a lot directly and also because they don't want to compete with their own distributors. A great place to buy Wilde is through Epstein's; their prices and service are fantastic. But, folks on here have made it clear that we should have just one Epstein's Day a year, so buying Wilde through them is problematic for that reason if we try to put together a buying event.

I'm interested to hear what you guys think.

If you get in touch with Wilde maybe they can take a percentage off the prices on their website.
I want to get a pair of their battery pliers.

But the greater challenge seems to be that they don't want to have people buying directly from them. After all, if their website prices were competitive with that of their distributors, it would upset their distributors.

You beat me to it. I've found Wilde selling at lower prices elsewhere. In fact, I have a couple for sale myself. My specialty are the ones no longer available. They have had some unusual tools from time to time, the kind you can't find other places, in size or angle kind of thing.

But one of the great features on their slip-joint pliers is that they have a locking screw that can be adjusted over time. Almost no others have that feature, just a nonadjustable rivet kind of thing holding it together.

I just ordered & received one of every Wilde prybar from Epstein's last week.
Folks, buy it from Epstein's....fast shipping from an awesome US vendor!

I try to have my own "personal" Epstein's day when I have some extra tool cash....just make sure you tell them you're from the Garage Journal....and don't forget the box art request!!

I really like the craftsman pry bars and plan to round out the set with some longer ones from Epstein's. the prices for Wilde tools there is ridiculously low, I hope the quality is there. Either way I'm willing to take a little risk on some of their other products, such as the pin punches. I need a few extra long ones, so will add those to my cart when I'm ready to order.

One interesting thing to note, is the huge price discrepancy between craftsman and Wilde. They are much more expensive at sears than Epstein's or their own site.

I would be all-guns-blazing for a Wilde Day through Epstein's. HOWEVER, only if that would not dampen any enthusiasm for our annual July 4th Official Epstein's Day.

Other ideas welcome.

Pick a month where there is a 'fifth' wednesday.

Even if you don't know it, you likely own some Wilde tools. They're the OEM of several products for dozens of companies including Proto, SK, Cornwell, Craftsman and even Snap-On. By Wildes own admission 65-80% of their business is manufacturing products sold under other labels. I know for sure my Proto pry bars are Wilde made and the vast majority of retaining ring pliers made in the USA come from Wilde as well. I believe a lot of pliers and aviation snips are rebranded Wildes as well.

I have some of their brake tools, pliers, punches and pry bars and they are all good.

My 6 year old and I went for a "night patrol" on the dirt road between our property and Ft Bragg last Saturday around 8pm. My son was wearing his camo backpack and carrying one of his Nerf guns. He told me I needed to carry the "big bar" (Wilde 36" pry bar) in case we ran into a bear.

I do not need any more encouragement:D I almost pulled the trigger on it last night, but didn't want to "miss" something on the Epstein's site. S I'm waiting until I can get a while list together and buy it all at once! :rocker:

Wilde does not manufacture their retaining ring pliers. They are made by stride tool co.

Are the Craftsman Pro pry bars made by Wilde? I have the 3pc set and they are great. Tough as hell. Just wish they sold the 5pc set in stores. Or even the 2 others online or in store

I am all for buying USA products and try to whenever I can. I try to purchase only USA made tools. But the Wilde tool website made my brain hurt, not really difficult to navigate but a lot of links that lead no where and blank pages. They need to fix that site

I have heard that before, however, Wilde claims on their Facebook page as well as other places to be a "manufacturer of retaining ring and convertible retaining ring pliers". The Wilde branded offerings are identical in every detail (case included) to the ones I named as posted in the "tool truck equivilant" thread. Why would a company who manufactures retaining ring pliers and does up to 80% of their business OEM-ing other people's ****, buy and re-brand Stride pliers? I can't say 100% for certain that you're wrong, but if you're right Wilde makes little sense in doing so.

Bull-
I am down for a Wilde event. I would love to pick up a pair or two of their flush slip-joint pliers, as well as a 36" prybar. Just tell me when and I am on it!

(I swear I will have to start a new bank account or something for "Garage Journal Events")
