^ Knife-makers will drive long distances to pick up old used rusty files and elk antlers. Not sure about leaf springs, but you could give it a shot. Craigslist "free" ad. Just toss 'em out on the curb and somebody will come and grab them.

This knife was made down Baja way from leaf springs:

Excellent steel! Rings like a bell and holds an edge without being brittle.

Having those leaf-springs pre-annealed would save a step or two!
